I can't get any data from my new Royaltek RGM-3600 USB GPS receiver
cristiano620
I just bought a USB GPS receiver called: Royaltek RGM-3600, GPS mouse. The driver for Windows Vista installed completely. I am doing project right now. I want read coordinates from this GPS receiver and display on Google Earth. However, I can't get any data from the receiver right now. I have no idea what is wrong.

Can anybody help me to solve this problem?

Thanks

Try Earthbridge to see if it can find your GPS. You can determine the COM port assigned if necessary by checking Windows Device Manager. Look in the Ports (COM and LPT) section.

Earth Bridge - Bridge the gap between Google Earth and your GPS receiver.

Thanks for your attention. It has rough data stream right now. However, I need to know how to convert them as formal data that could be recognized by Google Earth. I was wondering what was the problem? Is that could be the reason because inside the building with weak signal?

Looks like you are not getting any satellites. You are going to have to try it outside to get a lock.

How can I save the appropriate format that Google Earth could recognize?

Thanks for your help.

I will try it later

I don't use Google Earth but know that Earthbridge is a program to allow the use of GPS with Google. So you should be ok once you get a lock.

All of that 'gibberish' in the raw data window might be an indication you don't have the baud rate set properly on the preferences tab. My USB receiver shows readable data with 4800 baud, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, no parity and no flow control. When there's a fix lock you will see something like this in the raw data window:

$GPRMC,032631.000,A,4103.5903,N,07520.6897,W,0.54,353.68,230210,,*15

Now I can get data properly from that software. However is there anyway I can read a data from receiver and mapping on Google Earth without software? Such as make a program or editing your kml file?

Many people have trouble using Google Earth without GooPs or Earthbridge. I use GPSGate to connect to Google Earth as it enables me to use the GPS data stream for more than one map application at a time. Have you gotten your receiver to work with Google Earth?
cristiano620
Yes. I use RGM-3600. I just want make a easy software or program that could connect Google Earth instead of complicated software.

If you've gotten the RGM-3600 to "talk" to GE without any additional software, then you are all set to go!
