Has anyone out there experimented with pico projectors for navigation purposes?

These devices are getting smaller and brighter all the time. I wonder if one could project a map or navigation image onto, say, the inside of a vehicle's windshield with one of these babies. Or even a piece of cardboard taped to the dash. That might be interesting.

The issue would be getting a steady image. Every small movement of the projector with relation to the viewing surface would be magnified by the distance between them. Still, an interesting approach to a possible HUD.

I had a friend invert a DVD player screen to project it on the windshield... It worked well enough, but was visible to on-coming traffic. As I recall, it inverted the horizontal image, also.

I can understand those problems.

I am thinking that the pico projector might not have those while almost certainly having others. For instance, maybe the projector could be placed below the profile of the dash so that it would not be visible on a horizontal plane outside the vehicle. And, of course, it would not be horizontally reversed.

Am I missing a patent opportunity here?
