Hello all.
This was an interesting post.
I have a Globalsat BT338x that nRoute wont acknowledge.
I have sentences $gprmc $gpgga $gpgsa $gpgsv.
Will this Bluetooth GPS work with Garmin nRoute and Garmin Mobile PC, or am I chasing my tail?
P.S got info off gpsinfo.
Ta in advance.

Download GPS Gate. It will take the NMEA GPS data from your 338 and translate it on a COM port to Garmin PVT, the format nRoute understands. Set nRoute to look at that COM port and you should be fine.

Garmin Mobile PC (the software-only version) will work fine with BT GPS devices and does not require GPS Gate.

Hi Terry,

Got it to work with GpsGate now, but Mobile PC won't recognize it. How do I know if it is software only version?
Have got Mobile PC to work with GPS USB 18 bought independently.

The software only version of Mobile PC does not come with a GPS (20x or 10x). It will work with any NMEA (that is - standard) GPS and can talk directly to Bluetooth ones if you are using the Microsoft, Broadcom or Toshiba stacks. GPS Gate can also talk directly to Bluetooth GPS devices if you are using the Microsoft or Broadcom Bluetooth stacks. In other words, if GPS Gate can see it, Mobile PC should be able to (not at the same time, of course).

I assume, if you got Mobile PC to work with a USB GPS18, it can recognize Garmin PVT also as that is all the GPS18 can do. But, I know it works fine with standard non Garmin GPS devices. Come to think of it, Mobile PC probably uses PVT with the Garmin 10x too as it can read the serial number, even in the software version.

It says:
Quote:
Unable to locate Garmin GPS device.
Connect to other GPS device?

That sure sounds like how the hardware package would respond. I am surprised you got it to work with a GPS18. Did the DVD box have a green sticker with a number on it?

If you look in Settings - About, you can tell which version you have, The software-only one has a Product Key like my first screenshot. The Hardware version does not.

Gps nut,

Have you tried answering Yes to that message and see if it will connect?

It sounds like the last device used was a device that was using the Garmin protocol (your GPS18?) so that's what it was looking for. But it's seeing a standard (NMEA) device and wants to know if it's okay to use it instead of the Garmin protocol device it last used.

The only time I have seen that message was when using the hardware version without the proper Garmin GPS. Selecting 'Yes' gives the activation screen.

Using a non accredited Garmin device with the hardware version normally leads to a can not authenticate error message. That would be what I would expect using a GPS18 with the hardware version of Mobile PC.
