How to create a mailing list from an intersection or longitude / latitude?
Inspector911
I am a salesman, and I would like to be able to create a mailing list from any given intersection or longitude / latitude, lets say a 1 mile radius. I want to get all the addresses within that one mile radius and then import them into Excel or any Microsoft Office product. From there print out mailing labels and send my brochures. I know this can be done, but I don't know how. I would consider myself an above average user. Thanks for looking.

Hi Inspector911,

Welcome to Laptop GPS World.

I personally am not aware of a software solution for this, but hopefully you will get a few other replies from others, too. There may be a product that can achieve this.

You originally posted your question in the Microsoft section. I moved it here to this more general section because as far as I know, neither Microsoft Streets and Trips, nor the more expensive Microsoft MapPoint, can return actual mailing addresses near an intersection or lat / long. The above mentioned mapping software programs do not have a database of actual mailing addresses. The Navteq database only knows that a certain road segment starts and ends with certain house numbers. For example, it may know that a particular segment of Main Street starts with the house number 4500 and ends with 4800, you will be able to use the software to search for literally every single house number from 4500 to 4800, whether such addresses exist in the real world or not.

I believe that the information you are looking for is mostly provided by zip code. You buy the list from a service provider. It is often provided in Excel format, ready to go. Try searching the net for "addresses by zip code" and also check with your Chamber of Commerce.

The telephone directory companies can provide exactly what you are looking for in pretty much any format you want.

What you really need is a GIS. The GIS will automatically pull up all addresses within a given range of miles/kilometers of a point on a map. You'd want to go to a GIS contractor who has access to the parcel data. They can provide you with addresses in XLS format or visualized on a map.
