I was wondering what type of external GPS module would use less laptop battery power: Bluetooth or directly connected USB GPS units?

Most Bluetooth GPS have their own internal battery power source, then the USB GPS is connected to the laptop and is constantly connected with power through the USB.

So which: USB or Bluetooth GPS modules use more laptop battery power to operate?

It might not be significantly different because the Bluetooth connection also takes power for the Bluetooth radio, either internal if you have it or a Bluetooth dongle if you don't have internal.
