Garmin GPS routes differently from the route plotted on Streets & Trips 2010
glenna1984
I created a bicycle route in Streets & Trips 2010 and carefully checked all instructions to make sure the turns were in the correct places.

I exported the gpx file and uploaded it to my Garmin.

However, when I went to Navigate in the GPS it often told me to go right when the printed instructions said left...OR...to make U turn when the printed instructions said I want on the correct road, going in the right direction.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any time you use a gpx file created in one program on a different device, that device will calculate the route based on its maps and settings.

That make sense.

Are you implying then that, except for the Garmin mapping software, nothing else on the web or on my pc will work...i.e. Delorme, mapmyride, bikeroutetoaster, etc.?

BTW, then what is the point of gpx export?

One more question. I though a gpx export was just longitude and latitude.

gpx export provides the target device with a list of route points. The target device decides how to best get from each route point to the next based on its internal routing preference settings and the map data it has.

Thank you

As the map data should be similar, did you try different routing options on your Garmin GPS? If that doesn't help, you will need to add more route points until the final result is acceptable. Or you could try modifying the route on the Garmin if that is an option.
