Assuming you are in either USA or Canada, two PC mapping software programs popular among the RV crowd are Microsoft Streets & Trips and DeLorme Street Atlas. They are both excellent trip planners and they both can be used as a navigator on a laptop.
If you opt to go with MS Streets & Trips, you may want to download the free POI Mega File, a very useful collection of points of interest for RV-ers.

You can download Microsoft's Streets and Trips 2010 full-functioning 60-day trial issue to see if that is the sort of thing you want.
I've used both Streets & Trips and Street Atlas in my motorhome. They both work great. It's a matter of which you prefer. Each has its own idiosyncrasies and things you may or may not like.
