MapSource doesn't see Garmin Mobile PC
eagsc7
I have installed Garmin Mobile PC 5.00.70g, but am having issues. MapSource(6.15.3) is NOT seeing that I have Mobile PC. I've already tried the Drag-n-drop method into the GMPC directory, and then the screen goes Blank when I turn on GMPC. Same with MapInstall. No Luck

The first time you want to transfer information from MapSource to Mobile PC, both programs must be running. Once the connection has been established, Mobile PC status is not important. MapSource will list it in the Transfer to/ from lists.

What is the drag and drop method? What are you transferring?

Both programs running, *starting MobilePC First*, nothing listed in the "Transfer To" box.

Both Programs running, *starting MapSource First*, nothing listed in the "Transfer To" box.

Threw in Thumb drive, thumb drive recognized (and showed up in the "Transfer To" box). Completed the build file (named gmappsupp.img), and 'Drag-n-Drop' it into the Mobile PC folder. Mobile PC started, and screen went blank.

Any other ideas?

Ben

This is ALL on a Windows 7 Aspire One netbook.

Just did a complete Un-install and re-install of GMPC. Nothing

Ben

Updated MapSource... Nothing still... GAAH!!!! FRUSTRATION

I have never had problems with Mobile PC showing up in the transfer drop downs of MapSource. I have experienced a blank screen and hung program using 5.00.70 with Win 7. You might try an older version of Mobile PC but I don't think this will resolve you map transfer issue.

I might have to... see if that helps...

Ohh and Administrator mode on both/ either one did nothing as well...

Does Anyone have an Older version out there? I can't find it on the Garmin Website.

Ben, Garmin's website only has the latest upgrade version. Do not use that downloaded upgrade to attempt to identify the above issue. Use the full retail version that came on your DVD.

Another Goose Egg. A whole lotta Nothin Nadda, Nit or whatever else...

Your empirical data is stunning. I'm sure glad you posted that!

Windows 7 32 bit, MapSource 6.16.1 and Mobile PC 5.00.60. I have used the same procedure with older versions of MapSource and Mobile PC with the same successful results.

Even if the map you were trying to send was locked, you should still be able to transfer it. Of course Mobile PC would be unable to use it.

Tried the DVD version, and STILL the same. Does anyone know where I can get the old D/L of GMPC 5.00.60?

I'm afraid Garmin only offers the upgrade download for the most recent version. Which version number is your retail DVD?
eagsc7
5.00.10
tcassidy
I have never been able to have 5.00.10 even start on a computer that previously had a version newer than 5.00.30 with any operating system. Usually you hear a copule of beeps and the program doesn't appear.

Does Mobile PC start on your computer now?

With 5.00.70. Never worked with 5.00.10.
tcassidy
I can't suggest a link for older versions of Mobile PC. However, I am unable to duplicate your problem. I upgraded the Win 7 computer to GMPC 5.00.70 and could still see it in the transfer list of MapSource.

To Sum it ALL up... It's currently transfering maps TO Mobile PC now that I have a good version of 5.00.60. This is the LAST time that I delete the 'old' out-dated version for ANY software*finds new CD to burn*

Ben

I am glad you have resolved the problem especially as I have no idea what it was.

If anyone else needs a copy of the 5.00.60 upgrade let me know. It's the download version from Garmin so you have to have a purchased copy of Mobile PC or the upgrade won't work.

...ken...
eagsc7
OK, maps are now installed. Should I dare try re-upgrading to 5.00.70? It'll wait til morning.

Ben
tcassidy
Don't bother. 5.00.70 has a couple of issues making it hard to recommend. It only allows one set of maps besides the main one (gmapsup2.img is not recognized) and others have experienced crashes with it while travelling. Also you can't access Browse with the Enter key.

The only advantage I saw was it can easily be switched between Bluetooth and COM GPS receivers. Not useful unless you have a selection of GPS devices to test. Oh yes..and it bypasses the opening nag screen.

Terry

...Just couldn't wait. 5.00.60 Uploaded updated maps. YEAH!!!
Upgraded to 5.00.70, and now can't see MobilePC in the Send To box again... GAAH!!! I guess I'll have to run the 5.00.60 to load things, then 5.00.70 to use it(Primarly JUST for the "Made Garmin Mobile PC compatible with use of eTrex X units, other newer eTrex units, Oregons, and Colorados as sensors.")

Ohh, and I just noticed that on the Updates Detail, *who actually reads those* the one ABOVE afore mentioned reason is "Made changes to improve importing from MapSource". I will almost guarantee that THIS is the TRUE ISSUE!!!

Did you see ProITM's solution for 5.00.60 on page 4 of this thread?

Terry

OK, went BACK to 5.00.60, and using ProITM's solution, does work.

I guess this thread is another good reason to KEEP tinkering till it works. YEAH! Thanks for the current solution!

Now taking bets on IF this is actually fixed in the NEXT release(5.00.80)

Ben
tcassidy
It is unlikely unless you provide Garmin with information on your particular issue. I have not been able to duplicate your problem nor heard of anyone else with a similar situation.

Terry
eagsc7
I guess it may just fix its self. Or I'll just run it by HQ next week. (Olathe, KS)

Ben
eagsc7
I thought this was solved... now NEITHER are opening. I don't know WHAT has happened.... GAAH!!!
eagsc7
*using what I've Learned* I'm just going to Start Over from Scratch, and go from there!
Marvin Hlavac
Just make sure the installation is done using the original Garmin installation DVD. We have seen here, more than once, these types of issues related to people trying to avoid using the retail DVD. The less-than-perfect performance is not worth it. The product is inexpensive.
eagsc7
... As close as I can get to the Original DVD is it sitting in the network DVD Drive. I'm on an Aspire1 Netbook(NO DVD).

Ben

P.S. Got another code today... Any thoughts on this one??
