Nothing to do with GPS...

Does anyone have experience ordering a replacement laptop battery that ships from a specifically Canadian location/supplier? I'm looking for a spare carry, but when I've ordered batteries before that shipped from the U.S., there has been hassle with brokerage and customs fees.

Dell's price policy for a replacement is just plain silly! Their upgrade price for this 6-cell battery on a new computer is $180, but if you search for the battery alone, as a replacement, it's listed at $149, plus you already have the 3-cell battery that the computer ships with as standard equipment. And the specific battery is listed on most internet sites at half that price, i.e. $75 US...

Any pointers in the direction of a specifically Canadian shipper/supplier?

I bought one for my Toshiba from a 'Canadian' distributor Global Batteries Canada at a pretty good price. It seems ok so far. There are a number of companies that, at least, have a Canadian presence. Just search 'laptop battery canada' and take your pick.

Well, that's the kind of "shotgun" approach I was hoping to avoid... Most of those internet places will slap on whatever kind of name you would like, but they are extremely reticent about actually telling you where they are or where they are shipping from.

However, a phone call to Dell's Canadian call centre has proven fruitful! Chatting with the telephone sales rep and outlining the situation as I did above, has prompted an offer from Dell to provide a replacement battery for...$40 CAN... Almost couldn't believe it! It pays to make your displeasure known.
