Garmin Mobile PC: Unable to Calculate Route, No roads near starting point.
Oztexs
Hi Guys,

I've got Garmin Mobile PC with OzTopo maps installed via Mapsource. All is good except when I set a destination using MobilePC to a point, it does not matter which point it is, I get an error: "Unable to Calculate Route, No roads near starting point".

Unable to Calculate Route, No roads near starting point.

All it does is draw a straight line from one point to the other without using the roads that are available.

Any ideas?

The OzTopo maps probably don't have routing information included. So Mobile PC can't plan a route using those maps. If you were able to plan a route in MapSource using those maps, then you have to check that option when sending the maps to Mobile PC. It is at the bottom of the Maps tab.

Hmm interesting .. let me try.

Another reason you can get straight line "routes" between two points is if you have the routing preferences set to "off-road". But that shouldn't get the error message you are seeing because it would not be considered an error.

Terry's suggestion is the most likely one. It's actually seeing objects in the map database that will display as roads but no associated routing data for them.

Let us know how you make out.

Hmm, found the option, but its hazed out. I'm unable to set any option.

If the option is greyed out, the maps do not have routing information.

OK, so that explains it.

Does MapSource allow you to see where you are at any given time ? Ie use the GPS to plot your current location on the topo map? Btw, I'm using OzTopo.

No, MapSource has not had GPS capabilities since version 6.5. nRoute can do that though.
