Running 2 GPS programs with 1 GPS receiver
Kinnie
Is it possible to run 2 software programs such as nRoute and Globalmapper concurrently on the same note book with only one GPSr?

If so how? I tried, but it does not seem possible.

Yup - it's possible. You can use GPSGate, or XPort. Both will allow multiple GPS applications off of one receiver.

The gentleman who wrote Xport also wrote a free "compass" program. It is configurable and provides lots of good information in different formats. I run a compass and Streets & Trips together.

Try XPort first. It's a small download and it's easy to use. Xport144b (link at bottom of Xport webpage) works best on my computer.

Xport will not output the necessary GPS data type for nRoute. GPS Gate will. Also xport will not see your Garmin USB GPS and GPS Gate will. If you use Garmin products, get GPS Gate!

I use GPSGate myself and love it. It works 100% of the time, plus has the option to output your current location to the GPSGate site. From that, my father can track me as I drive all over the US (I'm a truck driver).

I tried using GPSGate, no luck, will it not work on windows 8.1? I know it worked with windows 7. Need to log onto spotter network and my storm chasing client at the same time. Keeps saying access to port com 3 denied.

GPS Gate won't work with Secure Boot, a feature of Windows 8. If you can disable Secure Boot in the Bios, GPS Gate will operate properly.
