Making Streets & Trips 2010 'Transfer to GPS' work locally?
crazyst
Hi,

I like using the Microsoft Streets and Trips 2010 GPS transfer function, but there are times when I would want to use it without internet access.

Has anyone taken the time to extract the java scripts and make an exported version that will work locally on their computer?

I can probably figure it out as I have most of the scripts, but I thought I would ask to see if someone else has done it.

Not trying to break any rules here, but I think it would be legit to adapt it to work standalone.

Hi Curt,

If you want to do it locally (e.g without an internet connection available), it's easiest to just export to a GPX file and load that onto your GPS.

Yep. I understand that. Just trying to keep a nice feature available to me all the time.

Curt, it's possible you could write your own interface to Garmin Communicator (browser plug-in) and see if the function exists in the local plug-in, e.g. will execute without a connection. The functions being called may be server-based, in which case you'll only be able to get it to work locally by (re)writing the entire function yourself.

Hey Ken,

I did a sniff just to capture what it's doing across the network. There's about a dozen javascripts it downloads and then a fairly cryptic URL submission to a microsoft server. It's a side project but I can post some of the information if I'm not breaking any rules by doing so if others are interested.
