Have Streets & Trips automatically create a set of hyperlinks
crazyst
I'm trying to create a URL under the Pushpin Properties Hyperlink Tab using the "Have Streets & Trips automatically create a set of hyperlinks" option.

I thought I had figured out how to do this but now I'm not sure because I can't recreate it.

I thought there was a way to drop in a Google Maps URL, and put in special symbols to tell Streets & Trips to insert the latitude and longitude in the URL, so when you Ctrl+Click on a pushpin it would open up a browser to Google Maps at that location.

Example: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=[lat],+[lon]

I used [lat] and [lon] because I don't know what Streets & Trips wants in those places to insert the latitude longitude from the pushpin.

Hopefully I've explained this well enough. Yes, I know Bing is available, but I want to use Google Maps for this little project.

To the first field of the dialog box shown in your post, add the following (including the asterisk at the end):

Code:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=*
When you place a pushpin on the map, the pushpin is automatically named Untitled 1, Untitled 2, Untitled 3, etc. Change this title to your desired latitude / longitude coordinates:

  1. Move the mouse over the desired location
  2. Ctrl+Alt+C to copy the coordinates
  3. Highlight the 'Untitled 1'
  4. Ctrl+V to paste the coordinates to the title bar of the pushpin

The text you enter to the title bar of the pushpin information balloon will be appended to the above URL (in place of the asterisk). It doesn't have to be just latitude / longitude coordinates, you could use a name place, too.

Hi Marvin,

Thanks for the info. You're always a wealth of knowledge on this stuff. I am aware of getting it to work that way but I was trying to find a way where I wouldn't need the coordinates in the name field since I need the name for naming the locations, otherwise they won't make much sense.

Maybe it isn't possible to do it the way I want to do it but I do appreciate knowing there is a way to do.

I was hoping Streets & Trips would have provided a way to get the attributes of the pushpins besides just the name. Maybe I should put that on the wish list.

The reason I went down this road is because I was importing the data with a URL embedded in the data but Streets & Trips has a problem with certain types of URL's apparently. I still haven't figured that issue out.

Thanks again for the help.

Yes, please do.

It would be good to have the power of pushpins expanded.
