Any tips before I start installing new Streets & Trips?
Lee In Tennessee
Well here goes. I have been using Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 for a few RV trips over the years and love it. I have been registered here for a while but I have not posted so I figure I better.

I just bought Streets & Trips 2010 for my wife's Laptop (hers is Windows 7 mine XP). I am going to install it this weekend. I will be using the puck I had with 2006 (from what I have read it should work) and I am going to add "The Mega File".
Are there any tips and/or hints you can give me that I need to know as I am installing?

Some antivirus programs interfere with the successful installation of some programs. I didn't see any issues with Nod32 or MSE but to be sure you might want to disable the antivirus program before starting. Remember to start your AV again when you have completed the installation.

Lee, recent versions of Streets & Trips, unlike older versions, now offer, during the installation process, some options which you may not want. It's been a while since I installed it, so I may not remember, but I think it asks you if you wish to add some Live/Bing tool bar(s) to your web browser, and perhaps it may even ask you if you wish to change your search engine and/or home page of your browser. It's a good idea to go slowly and read the dialog boxes during the install.

Thanks for your first post, Lee. It's nice to have you here!

Great POINT... I hate it when all of a sudden I have Yahoo Tool Bars. I use Firefox and just a normal everyday tool bar. I like to K.I.S.S. it (Keep It Simple Silly) my daughter does not like me to use Stupid...

Thanks for the Welcome

Yes, there are three check boxes to do with Bing search and Windows Live. You will probably want to uncheck all of them as they have no direct connection with the program.

I just tried it again with Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) running on a Windows 7 64 bit computer and that did not appear to cause any issues.

Lee, if you are installing on a computer that already has an older version of Streets & Trips installed, the installation will ask you if you wish to keep the older version, of if you wish it to uninstall it. I always opt to keep the older version.

I like to have access to the older version just in case there was something about the new version that would not work the way I'm comfortable with. Having both, the old and the new, gives me the option to switch to the old and familiar version when ever I may have an issue with the new.

After a few weeks of using the new, I have always uninstalled the old.

Thanks... I have 2006 on my Laptop with XP, and I am going to put 2010 on my wife's with with Windows 7... She like using her own laptop while traveling, and that's OK with me.

Thank You both so much.
