Garmin Mobile PC with 10x Discontinued

Since our shipping origins are different I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed that I'm gonna get a version I can update.

Maybe there is some New Old Stock floating around. Apparently my Garmin Mobile PC shipped from DrivenGPS itself. Maybe they have more than one warehouse or ?

Or maybe I can't accept defeat till the fat lady sings? In reality I guess the fat lady probably has laryngitis. (At least in my case.)

Maybe USPS sends all west coast products bound for BC via Los Angeles - oops San Fransico - well Califonia anyway. Maybe these copies actually were in the back of a dusty warehouse in Everett!!

Mine left Houston at 11:34PM and arrived in Beaumont at 6:06 AM. That's a little misleading for a 90 mile trip. The local UPS (not USPS) complex opens at 6 AM. It went out on the delivery truck at 7:18AM. It's a short trip to Nederland.

I have to try again to cut the grass at the senior citizen's center (stopped by rain yesterday and the day before) so I won't be here unless it rains again. I'll have to sign the slip they leave and get it tomorrow.

Heard anything from Garmin yet? (Not that I'm a little anxious or anything . . . )

You mentioned BC. In the late 60's/early 70's I covered Oregon, Washington and Idaho for a stock market quotation company. By myself. It got kinda hectic at times. It was my ninth trip to Seattle that it wasn't raining (it was snowing).

Vancouver BC was considered the quintessential party town back then for a computer tech in his early twenties. I liked it.

I haven't received a reply from Garmin yet nor have I phoned them. However, I compared 2 Mobile PC products I have registered on My Garmin. One is this one with the 10x and the other an older one with a 20x (you can't register the software-only version). Note the 'Update Available' button for the 20x version which leads to a one time and lifetime purchase option.

From this I definitely get the impression the product we received is a one time thing similar to the software version. I don't know if this applies to all 10x packages - maybe they can't make their confirmation software talk to non-physically connected devices. I know it won't see mine even though I recall an update to the WebUpdater specifically for this problem.

I will let you know if Garmin can shed any light on this.

Maybe apples and oranges, Terry? Your 20x only shows CNNA 2009 so there is obviously a 2010 update available.

Your 10x shows CNNA 2010 and the web site might only be set to show available updates for anything older than what is currently shipping. 2010 is what is currently shipping. 2011 is only coming on the upgrade path and is not yet a shipping product.

Just guessing. Never underestimate how stupidly Garmin's web site is set up, especially where updates are concerned.

Besides, we don't really want to totally squash Ted's optimism, do we?

My thought too Ken, except the button leads to a page that offers the nuMaps lifetime updates. Something you can't get to from the other product.

And anyway, I like being a party pooper!

I've given this whole situation a lot of thought. Especially when trying to sleep. I got home at 6:30 to find a box from DrivenGPS on my front porch. When looking over the Order Details/Packing Slip the primary reason for all the confusion hit me like a ton of bricks.

I searched, found and ordered this thing on Friday 13th!!!

Or it may be just a coincidence. I've always considered Fri. 13th to be a lucky day for me. After all, my belly button birthday falls on the 13th. Even if I ordered it on the 12th the only difference would be I would have probably got it a day earlier. So much for that theory.

Is there anybody out there with the 10X bundle that has purchased the Lifetime Update package? If so, please chime in. Inquiring minds want to know.

I guess I'll pop the seal on the box and load it up.

Although my first reply from Garmin could have been written on toilet paper, it was so useless, they did confirm that all versions that include a GPS are elligible for you to pay them more money.

I asked again how I might line their pockets so we will see what happens.

It does look suspicious. Mine says the same thing. But the response you got from support sounds promising.

I saw a typo (?) in the quick start guide that said "Garmin Mobile XT". It's at the bottom page 4.

Gotta stop and watch Nightline on ABC. They have a segment on GPS horror stories. RV's hitting low bridges, etc. It's on now - 11 PM CST. I'll return after it airs.

Good catch. I found one of my 20x books and it says 'bars in the upper right corner of the Menu page'. Funny, the book part number is 190-00939-01 Rev. B. that sounds newer than the 20x one (from 2008) 190-00880-01 Rev C. Guess we'll see what Britton H of Garmin has to say!!
