Garmin Mobile PC with 10x Discontinued
xPosTech
Also in the "Where is my Serial Number" on Garmin's registration page Garmin Mobile PC is not listed.

I think I've seen that I should use the 10X serial number but I just want to make sure.

The GMPC S/N is kind of suspect. 10 digits six of which are zeros with one alpha.

When MyGarmin registration asks for a serial number, enter the one on the 10x which will be something like 322xxxxx. That is the hardware part which is all they are interested in. You can't even register a software only version. Let us know if you get a maps available when you register!!

I see it is only 22203 newer than my 2008 model but how many of them would there be!

The particular range of 10x serial numbers is probably set aside for ones associated with Mobile PC. When you enter it, the system will identify the product as Mobile PC. I have another one that came with Mobile XT and Mobile PC will give a warning message if I try to use it with this version. It works fine with the software version of course.

The other two were 10 digit. Since the registration page asked for an 8 or 9 digit number I entered the 10X number. It's now registered and came back with Mobile PC. But I had to download the Garmin Communicator plug-in when I clicked the Map Update button. It couldn't find the BT.

I sent an email to product support asking them to help me spend some money.

Just got a message from Garmin that I can download my update. I went to MyGarmin page and the Manage maps button and I had a new addition of CNNANT 2011.1 with a dropdown asking which product to associate it with. I chose the latest version of Mobile PC and turned on the 10x.

It found the 10x right away and started the (new) standard download procedure which included the option to install to the computer (called download details in this case). I chose Device only as I already have 2011.1 on this computer due to the Nuvi. Download is in progress now so I should know if everything is ok before tomorrow morning. I guess they just had to add the 10x to their database although I expected some comment.

Mobile PC/ 10x is now CNNANT 2011.2!

Gentlemen, I thank you very kindly for this topic. I followed it with great interest. I just ordered my 10x bundle. I do not need another Garmin Mobile PC software, neither do I need another GPS receiver for my laptop, but the map data update alone is worth the price.

We welcome you to the ranks of 10x owners, Marvin. Just remember, the version only works with that GPS.

Also, when you get the ok to download the update, don't forget to take the one that updates your MapSource as well.

I am still suspicious of this sale. The price is out of line with other versions and products on that site. More like a 'fell off the back of a truck' sale. But if Garmin isn't doing anything about it, I'm not going to complain.

I realize I will have to now use the GPS 10x exclusively, and I will try to live with that. I'm just hoping I will be able to update the map, just like you did. I'll report back in about a weak.

I also heard from Product Support:
Dear Ted,
Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I will be glad to assist you. I apologize if your mygarmin account did not populate an automatic map update for you. If you login to your account now that should be corrected. As for purchasing map updates, after logging into your account choose "manage maps". Choose map update available. From there you can choose between purchasing a one time update or for the life of your device.

With Best Regards,

I haven't gone to mygarmin yet but I assume all is well. I wonder if they're adding S/Ns individually as people complain or Manufacturing just dropped the ball on a block of S/Ns?

If they are following this thread I wonder what will happen to the price at Driven? Anybody need to buy some early Christmas presents? The price might be going up.

I wonder too much. I'm just happy they are forthcoming with the updates.

Should we reply to the email with a "Thank you very much"?

I always do. You might need to deal with the support people again!

I started this thread because the M$S&T 2010 trial version could not find the address of the house at Lake Sam Rayburn. The address there was originally a Rural Route # Box #, Broaddus, Texas, 75929. About 10 years ago it changed to a House #, CR (County Road) #, Broaddus, etc. That was to incorporate the nationwide 911 addressing system. The fact M$S&T 2010 couldn't find it soured me on their maps.

If my address at the lake was in the database I could be pretty sure the maps were up to date as far as I was concerned. Since the address was in the Google Maps database I knew there were maps that had the address. It also keened my need for update packages no matter what navigation product I used.

I am grateful that Garmin came through with the updates. I think they have earned a customer for life.

Oh yeah. As soon as I installed GMPC (before updating) I went to "Where to" and plugged in the address. It popped up with a route straight to the house at the lake.

From another thread, S&T seems to be running about a year behind GMPC. You will probably see the address in Streets & Trips 2011. Google does not use the same database and is woefully inadequate in many instances. You were just lucky.

It has been in GM for a few years now. I don't remember exactly when they added it. Maybe because of fire/ambulance/police databases?

I think we are all lucky to get the updates. Mine is downloading as we speak. Cricket Broadband wouldn't cut it. I went back to my tethered WM phone. About twice or three times as fast.

It took a little under an hour and a half on ADSL last night when I downloaded only the Mobile PC part.
