Can the transparent bar be removed from the top of the dispay?
davekra
I've got Garmin Mobile PC 5.00.70 running on my carputer with a 7" screen.
Problem is the bar that says "Ready to Navigate", shows street names, etc... is way big on my small screen.

Is there a way to turn this bar off or reduce it's size?

I've been through every menu I can find and no luck.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.
Thanks,

Turning your screen sideways, if a possibility, helps a whole bunch. However you must maintain at least 800 pixels in the horizontal direction (768 will work in a pinch). Also, increasing the pixel depth will make the bar smaller relatively. It is also not as noticable and more apparently transparent in night 3D mode.

Otherwise, no.

Bummer.
I just skimmed the 25 page Garmin review on the home page. Apparently I'm not the only one who's displeased with this overly fat bar taking up valuable screen space.

Spinning the display is a good idea, unfortunately impossible with my setup.

I guess I'll have to get used to it. I hate it when I can't make a machine do what I want.

Thanks,

My experience with 7" LCDs is they default to 800x600 but can be pushed to 1024x768. Is that something you could do with yours? It does make a bit of difference.

It will do 1024, thing is can I make the skin I'm using do it.
I think I'll first see if Garmin looks better at that resolution. If it does, then I can work on getting the skin to do it.
Will all depend on how it looks at that resolution.

Thanks again,

Its not the width (1024) that makes a difference but the height (768). If it does 1024x600, you won't see any improvement but 1024x768 gives you 168 more apparent vertical pixels so the bar will be reduced a bit. That is assuming you are starting at 800x600.

I know these screens are actually not 4:3 but you only get certain resolutions available depending on the video chip so a bit of distortion is present. Not really noticable though.

I set it up on my Benq 5" to show the difference. The first is 800x600 and the second is 1024x768. The Benq is also ~16:10 so has a native resolution of 800x480 and is very similar to the usual in-car 7" screen.
