Windows 7 Doesn't See GPS : USB Serial Controller Missing
AndreQC
When I try to use my Microsoft Streets & Trips GPS with my new laptop computer (Toshiba Qosmio), Windows 7 can not use it, and I have the message:

Quote:
USB-serial controller driver missing
I can not find this driver.

Thanks for your help.

Andre, is it the Microsoft's GPS receiver, or a GPS inside your laptop, that you are trying to use?
AndreQC
To Marvin,

I am trying to use the Microsoft's USB GPS.

Do you get a message that a driver is being installed when you plug the GPS in to a USB port?

I Terry,

No, I did not get any message.

I check also on my MSST2008 DVD to find the driver to try a manual installation, but nothing.

You probably have a Pharos 500 (GPS-500). I plugged mine into my Win 7 64 bit computer and it installed a driver without issue. It shows in Device Manager - Ports (COM & LPT) as a Microsoft USB GPS Port (COMxx). If you show that listing in Device Manager when your GPS is connected, it should work fine. Just point S&T 2008 to the COM port it lists.

BTW you can get to Device Manager by typing Device Manager into the 'seach programs and files' entry above the Start orb. Then click on the + sign next to Ports (COM & LPT) to expand the listing.

I have retry a lot of things.

It shows in Device Manager - Ports (COM & LPT) as a Microsoft USB GPS Port (COM08) with error (code 10)

Device can not be start
Marvin Hlavac
Andre, do you have access to another computer for testing? If yes, could you try to plug your USB GPS receiver into its USB port? The computer should locate the proper driver via the Internet, and install it (Streets & Trips is not needed for this test).

Did you try right clicking the driver (that shows the error code) and selecting properties, then Driver tab. There you can select Update driver and see if Windows can find the right one.

Terry

Yes, I try, but Windows can not find one,

Andre

Are you letting it search on line?

Terry
AndreQC
Yes I did, Terry

Try the driver for Windows 7 listed at this site.

I Terry,

This is the driver that I am using from this site

Quote:
SB Driver for iGPS-360 and iGPS-500 for 32/64 Bit Windows 7
This driver will allow a Pharos iGPS-360 / iGPS-500 receiver, connecting via USB, to function with 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7.
When I use it, it shows in Device Manager - Ports (COM & LPT) as a Microsoft USB GPS Port (COM08) with error (code 10)

Device can not be start

Maybe you need to uninstall that driver fully and then let Windows search for a new one again.
