Choice of GPS Baud Rates in Streets & Trips and AutoRoute

Choice of GPS Baud Rates

Increasingly, there seems to be problems for Streets and Trips or AutoRoute interfacing with GPS units over the issue of port baud rates. It would be nice if the Microsoft applications had the functionality to accept more than one pre-determined baud rate. It seems that 9600 is increasingly the native baud rate of some GPS hardware; how about making it a setup option in Streets and Trips?

Yes, I very much agree with this one. In the past this wasn't an issue at all, since most, if not all, consumer GPS receivers would output 1Hz at 4800 baud rate. However, these days many USB and Bluetooth GPS receivers use higher default baud rates than 4800, and even refresh rates are higher than 1 Hz in some units.

It would make life for many users in the future much simpler if Streets & Trips could handle higher baud rates.

I personally don't care much for seeing map refresh rates higher than 1Hz, but it would at least be nice if Streets & Trips could convert 2 Hz to 10 Hz down to 1Hz. Currently, if users use 5Hz receiver, the GPS icon on Streets & Trips will lag too much to be usable.

Agree, although people who are using S&T for purposes other than conventional road navigation may differ.

Yes, different users have different needs. Some people do in fact like higher map refresh rates.
