Does the number of route stops affect the scale of Streets & Trips navigation map?
ron4adams
If this has been answered in an earlier thread I apologize for not finding it. This will be my first RV trip using Streets & Trips for both planning and navigation. Does the number of stops listed for a given saved route have any effect on the scale on the navigation map? I don't know what the proper name to use, but it is the map which is active when the guidance pane is open? Is it necessary to have the guidance pane open to receive spoken instructions? Thanks in advance for your responses.

No, not per se. You control the scale with the level of zooms. Or, if you are navigating in Full-Screen mode with the GPS keeping track of you, it will depend on what options you select in the GPS pane. I tend to use the dynamic turn view which keeps the entire un-completed route segment in the map view pane so it zooms in as you get closer to the end of the route segment. Then when you pass the stop at the end of that segment, it automatically opens up a view of the next segment.

I don't understand the question. Whatever map file you have open will appear alongside the GPS, or whatever side pane you have open.

No, although I am not sure what you mean by "guidance pane." Many people use the Full Screen mode which is mostly map, no Directions pane, but a Navigation pane open at the bottom.

I suggest you take this out for a familiarization run around the neighborhood to see what does what when.

Thanks SpadesFlush, I just got back from a short trial run and most of my questions were answered. Within your response you used the term "route segment". I am not sure I understand. As I have been creating my route for this spring I assumed the only two options were to save segments of the entire route as individual maps or save the entire route as one map. With the first option I thought we would open each saved map one at a time. With the second option the one map would be opened each day for the entire trip? Is there a third option?

I suppose there are as many options as there ideas with respect to constructing routes. I tend to make and use one route file for the entire trip, even if several thousand miles long.

With regard to "route segments," I mean those single elements of a route between any two Stops. This is a term used in S&T's Help (F1). I mean the same thing.

Got it, Thanks

As a technical aside, the overall length of the entire route will effect the scale of the map when utilizing the "zoom to route" function actuated by double clicking the Summation sentence in the driving directions...

Well, just to extend that thought, if you double-click any particular day header of a multi-day itinerary in the Driving Directions pane, it will zoom the map to the territory covered for that day.

Kewl (the cool way cool kids say "cool") feature...
