How to add custom POIs to ALK CoPilot Laptop Truck
malaki86
Try adding column headers to the csv file (for your setup) (I may have the latitude & longitude reversed):

latitude,longitude,name,desc

malaki, Have you ever removed a file from your Copilot after you have entered one?
malaki86
Just go into the directory you copied the files to. You'll see files with the same name (possibly directories with the same name too). Just delete them.
OneRVer
Yep I found it. Under save -> user_places. I always thought that file folder was empty. Not anymore.

I hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas and may next year be even better than this year. -Steve

Well I just finished Arizona, Alaska, Arkansas, California and Colorado. Converted from .csv to .ov2. Moved the ov2 file to Copilot -> save.

It worked.

Now it is time to take a break from and go .

malaki, you are the greatest.
malaki86
Very nice. Glad to see that my instructions were clear enough to help others out.

malaki, When you install an updated POI, do you delete the first one or will the updated POI write over what is already installed?
malaki86
I've changed a couple of my 'normal' poi sets that I use on a daily basis. After editing and reconverting, CoPilot reimported. I didn't see any duplicates in it.
OneRVer
Not sure where to put this reply But ALK is not taking any responsibility for the POI's mistakes/problems.

Thank you for submitting an ALK Digital Maps(TM) update request.

We want to inform you that part of the MapSure request you submitted is not applicable to the ALK MapSure service. We license our POI (Points of Interest) data from InfoUSA; therefore we cannot guarantee that the missing/incorrect POI will be corrected.
We do want to help you to the best of our ability so we recommend the following:

1. Check to see you have the latest quarterly map data. We provide POI updates from InfoUSA in the free quarterly map updates and your request may have been resolved already.

• For iPhone & iPad customers: You can download the latest free Quarterly map update via the application updates in your iTunes.

• For CoPilot Live Directions customers: You can download the latest free Quarterly map update directly from your phone using CoPilot Live Directions. Within CoPilot Live, go to Menu > Get Maps

• For Windows Mobile & Android customers: Download your free full map update using the latest version of CoPilot Central 2.0 desktop companion software. You can download and install CoPilot Central 2.0 from CoPilot Live Central 2.0 Download: ALK Technologies. You must also have the latest version of CoPilot Live for your Windows Mobile or Android device. You can also download the latest version of maps directly from your phone using CoPilot Live. Within CoPilot Live, go to Menu > Get Maps

• For PC*MILER Navigator and RightWay customers: Download your free full map update using the latest version of CoPilot Central 2.0 desktop companion software. You can download and install CoPilot Central 2.0 from CoPilot Live Central 2.0 Download: ALK Technologies.

2. Check to see you’ve searched for the POI in the correct category. To do so, use the “Search by Name” feature in CoPilot Live. Go to Menu > Destination > Points of Interest > (select your location) > Search by Name > Type in the POI name.

If you still do not see the missing POI after completing the steps above, there is no need to resubmit the request through MapSure. We will do our best to work with InfoUSA to resolve your POI request, but please note it is under the discretion of InfoUSA and we cannot guarantee it will be fixed.
malaki have you ever played with "Copilot Live Central 2.0"?
OneRVer
I just downloaded Copilot Central 2.0 and seems it is a good deal if you are using a Smartphone. Appears it take .csv files instead of .ov2 files. I have ask ALK if they will incorporate it with the Laptop.
malaki86
Ya - I have it installed for my Android version of CoPilot. Pretty simple program to use.

CP Central is used to interface a computer with the Android, iPhone, and PDA versions of the ALK nav products. With it you can get maps, program updates, POI management, create or restore backups, etc. It is not necessary with the laptop product. It would be better just to incorporate a more full-featured POI management screen directly into the CoPilot program IMO.
OneRVer
Does anyone know how to load a .bmp file into CoPilot?
DieselBoss
Too vague. What do you want the .bmp to do?
malaki86
He's wanting it for the POI icon. I'm not sure what the size & color depth (8 bit, 16bit, etc) are, though.
