ALK CoPilot Live 8 Laptop has been released

Here is the reply I received from CoPilot about vehicle restriction.

Quote:
The routing algorithm takes into account the routing type, vehicle parameters as it generates the route. So the route generated both in Planning and Route Guidance modes should reflect the settings.

LJ, here is a reply from your list that I sent to ALK.

Quote:
We are continuing to populate the Lane Assist, Clear Turn, and Speed Limit data. Our initial priorities were to include it for major Interstate to Interstate intersections.

Intent is to warn / alert the driver ahead of the maneuver as opposed to during the maneuver itself… as one knows, staring at the map while maneuvering is not safe.

The “update” button is for map maintenance and support file updates. For Laptop there is another updater that runs in the background on start and checks for CoPilot application updates – there is no manual process for that check.

The “Map sure” button is for reporting map issues only. In V8 we do not have the functionality to attach a GPS track via the MapSure service. However we are enabling this for our next generation solution.

OneRVer Thanks for the update we need to emphasize that the seeting are restrictive especially in the truck mode. They need to realize a narrow road is no place to be for a RV or truck. Lonnie

Awwww - I always enjoy when I get sent down a narrow 2 lane road in WV, especially if it's at night and raining. Keeps your skills up.
LouviereLJ
OneRVer maybe the best way to show them is to get them to try those coordinates. That way they can change want ever settings that they think they need to. Then they can let us know what the fix is.

Malaki86 you've got that right. Safe travels, Lonnie

The problem might not be in the constraints. It might be in the designation of that particular stretch of road. There might be an error in the map data describing it as the wrong type of road.

But that is still a good reason for notifying them so they can fix whatever the problem is.

Well said Ken. They should not try to just write it off as we have the settings wrong. Safe travels, Lonnie

ALK has expressed great interest in this. They have taken the coordinates and ran a demo route. There is no height restriction on this road and in the RV Mode that is all that is asked.

I am not sure if they ran a demo in the Truck Version. Lonnie did but I am not sure of the route it took him and what info he entered.

This route starts out great. Nice and wide with asphalt. However, it quickly turns very narrow with no turn around points. So you either hope no vehicle is coming your way and keep going until you find a spot to turn around,,,or,,,, back up for about a mile. If you are in a pick-up and camper no problem. But my motor home with the mirrors included I am at 117". Even being in my jeep it is sometimes difficult to move over far enough for an on coming vehicle.

Lonnie, could you take a thumb nail picture of the final destination and attached it as well as the info you entered into the Truck Mode? Thank You.

You are right about the design, Ken. On some maps this route is called East Lolo Pass and on others is called Primary Forest Route 18. Copilot sees it as East Lolo Pass.

I understand you have to use some common sense but this is one road that will bite you in the butt with no warning.
LouviereLJ
I can do that tomorrow or Monday. But as been stated before this is not a road a motorhome should be on. Are they thinking all RVs are alike. They say that the RV version keep you off "narrow roads and will not execute a U turn. Well maybe they can start with that. They should plan for at least a 40ft motorhome. I will do the truck route for them and take a screen shot for them. I take it they want the route in words. Safe travels, Lonnie
LouviereLJ
OneRVer, I have run the coordinates you gave me again and took a screen shot of the last part of the route from I 84. How do you want me to get it to you? Lonnie
OneRVer
Sure if you do not mind. Thank you.
LouviereLJ
OneRVer, I do not mind I just need to know what method you want me to use to get the info to you. Safe travels, Lonnie
OneRVer
Just email it to me. Also would you include the info you enter. ie length, width, etc.

thank you much.
OneRVer
LJ, I received an email saying that you tried to send me an email but it was not allowed. Not sure why, I believe I have all my setting are set for accepting emails from members.

OneRVer,

It's possible that attachments are not allowed when sending emails to a bliind email address via the forum. Just PM your actual email address to him.
