Maps not unlocking in Garmin Mobile PC
opfor2
Hi all,

I had to reinstall my Garmin Mobile PC program after I managed to corrupt it by not closing it properly. I used the remove program function in my Windows XP Panasonic Toughbook CF-29. The program installed flawlessly with no issues. However, the maps will not unlock. This is a authentic system with the program and GPS receiver.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Dan.

Dan, try to launch Garmin Mobile PC as administrator: Right-click the Mobile PC desktop icon, and the select Run as Administrator. Let us know id that helps.

Did you install it in its default location? Or at least in the same place you installed it the first time. Mobile PC leaves a lot of stuff behind when you uninstall it. If part of that was damaged, it might not install a clean copy.

Yes, I uninstalled it using the XP program uninstaller, then re installed it. I did this hoping that I could salvage all of my saved waypoints which it did. I will gladly dump the whole thing and start from scratch if someone could tell me how to save my waypoints.

As far as I know, your waypoints are stored in a file named GARMIN_WPT.NVM stored at Documents and Settings\<your name>\Application Data\GARMIN\GarminMobilePC. Copy that to another location plus the file current.gpx in the GPX folder at the same location.

Assuming you have the hardware version of Mobile PC meaning the package included a GPS (20x or 10x), you can then delete that folder after uninstalling the program. A new install will rebuild the folder and may solve your issues. If not also delete the 'Devices' folder at the Garmin folder location and try again.

You can then restore your current.gpx file to the new GPX folder and the waypoints should be rebuilt. If not, restore the GARMIN_WPT.nvm file to its folder.

If you have the software version of Mobile PC, this is not a good strategy as you will lose the license for the program.

If you have Garmin's Mapsource on your PC, you can Transfer the waypoints from Mobile PC into Mapsource as a backup.
