I need better PC GPS software for Australia for a medium size campervan (RV)

Hi, I am 70 years old and a newby, I have IGO8 and Garmin Mobile PC running on a small ASUS laptop. Both work ok except when on route, I stop for a meal break or for some other reason, when I restart the vehicle I find the program has frozen. I have to turn of the computer and restart the software to proceed. I assume that it is a computer problem as both GPS have the same problem.

I prefer the IGO8 to the Garmin, but is there a better software anyone could recommend for Australia. I use the GPS in a medium size campervan (RV) and travell both urban and country roads.

You did not specify what program you are using to share the GPS between 2 programs. Maybe it can't recover from a sleep cycle while you are away from the vehicle.

The only other software that is specific to Australia that I know of is Odyssey Navigator http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/odyssey-navigator

Thanks for your reply, I only use one program at any one time, so there isn't any program to share the receiver. No matter which program I use I get the same problem. Thanks.

There are some GPS that won't survive a sleep cycle - the Garmin 20x comes to mind but you probably aren't using that one. Rather than restarting the computer, have you tried unplugging the GPS from the computer and then plugging it back in?

Thanks Terry, I will try that next time I am using it. Everything is fine except for this problem. I have the laptop mounted in my Ford Transit Van camper. It hangs on a ball joint mount that is attached to thetop surface of the cabin where one of the interior lights was fitted. I use a mouse to set it up and is quite effective. Thanks again,

Looks good. I knew you guys drove on the wrong side but never knew you typed upside down.

Drove around Nova Scotia for nearly 3 weeks awhile back, needed all my attention. As for the typing, anything is possible if you have a need, but the mouse comes in handy.

A new forum member, Michael, posted this link (http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/index.php) to an application which might be helpful to you. As it uses Google maps, it does not exclude Australia the way MSFT apps do.
