Review: Microsoft Streets and Trips 2010

Delivery in "1-3 weeks" usually means that Amazon has sold out of their initial stock, and have to get more.

However, Amazon tends to be aggressive on pre-sales, so as Marvin says, it may just be their way of delaying the shipments.

Corrected in 2010!

Thanks. I think I'll wait awhile and try the trial version from Marvin's comment.

Alrighty...I've cancelled my order for ST 2009 and will order the 2010 version. Now, I have to decide on which BT/USB GPS antenna to get.....don't want to spend a ton, and I prefer BT, since my Netbook has BT and it means less clutter in the cab.

I'm considering the Holux M-1000 BT for $40, Globalsat BT-359 for $35 or the Qstarz BT-Q818X Bluetooth GPS Receiver for $64... Leaning towards the last and it's at the upper limit of my budget - I can get from Semsons w/ a mount.... C'mon - Help me spend my $$ wisely!!

Ciao for now -- ND

Any of those should be fine. I have a different model from two of those manufacturers and they are great. The qStarz looks like a good size antenna and should perform on par or better than the iTrek M7, one of our favourites.

Just in case anybody is concerned with the stated minimum screen resolution listed for S&T 2010, I installed it on my mini ITX with a 7" 800x480 screen. The installation went smoothly and all dialog boxes fit within the screen borders. Although I would not recommend this resolution as it poses some issues, the product is usable. the usual netbook resolution of 1024 x 600 should be fine.

Terry, thanks for posting it. I'm surprised Streets & Trips 2010 works at all at 480 pixels of vertical resolution!

I'm attaching bellow a comparison screenshot Larry sent me last week, and a quote from a PM:

Yes, with every toolbar turned off, the Go button is just visible on the bottom of the screen. To use that function, you click the button and a box opens to fill in the address. When you click OK, the program will perform the calculation. I hadn't checked it in S&T 2009 due to unfamiliarity with the function.

Good news

You remember that problem we had with S & T 2009 and 2008... Bad routing !

I try it with S & T 2010 and it's OK... 2010 trace the green line...

I set it up on the UMPC which can do 1024x600 for comparison. It looks much more usable even with the toolbars.

Alain (a.k.a. nialag), thanks for checking the old routing issue in the new Streets & Trips 2010 . I would love to know if it was a map data error in the old version(s), or if improvements have been made to the routing algorithm.

I don't have a Windows Live ID and I keep getting an error message when I click on Sign up now. Was gonna try it out this weekend as I am going home to Nashville,TN for the long weekend. Am a geocacher so I really am (was) excited about the prospect of using GPX files.

Any hints anyone?

If you are getting an error on the Streets & Trips download page while trying to sign up, go sign up somewhere else, log in somewhere else, and then (don't log out) come back to Streets & Trips download page.

There are many other places where you can sign up and/or log in. Google "Windows Live ID"...
