MapSource communicating with Garmin Mobile PC?
OMECOR
Windows 7 Home Premium. Installed Garmin Mobile PC version 5.00.70g, MapSource version 6.16.3, and Delorme Serial Emulator 1.0 to make GMPC see my DeLorme Earthmate LT-20 receiver on a USB port.

GMPC loads my gmapprom.img fine (2 Gig Europe map), can make routes etc. Would like to see that map in Mapsource, but I cannot find a way to do that, there is no sign of both programs working together.

Is it possible to convert the .img into an .mps file maybe?

As far as I know, you have to download the version required for MapSource when you download the version for Mobile PC. If the map you have came on the DVD with Mobile PC, there is no way to unassemble it for MapSource.

Also, the Delorme Serial Emulator does not work in the Win 7 environment. It is only for XP.

There is possibility to convert img to Mapsource format, but not all features are preserved.
Similar result one can get with direct using of img in BaseCamp.

@OMECOR,

As popej said, you can download Garmin's Basecamp program for free from Garmin and you may be able to use it to view the GMAPPROM.IMG map file. You will probably have to copy the map file to a USB flash drive (put it in a \GARMIN folder). Basecamp will look for data and maps on removable media but not on the local hard drive. At least I don't know any way to make it do so.

The easiest way to have img on HDD is to use virtual removable drive like ImDisk.
You can use symbolic link or junction in virtual drive, so even there is no need to have second copy of gmapprom.img.

Thanks for the tip, popej.

Thanks, de Delorme emulator works fine with GMPC under W7. I have no problems working with GMPC. By now I wonder why I would need MapSource anyway, there seems no compatability with GMPC, they never see each other, apparently there are
many posts concerning this issue.

and yes Popej, the gmapprom.img is on my harddrive, GMPC has no problem working with it, although I have to say that 2Gb of Europe map loads up a bit slow. Thx

Interesting about the Delorme serial emulator working with Win 7. Even Delorme says it doesn't work. DeLorme Technical Support :: DeLorme Serial Emulation Driver for Earthmate® GPS Receivers

Regardless of what other posts say, MapSource and GMPC work fine together assuming you have non-locked maps in MapSource you want to transfer to GMPC. You can also use MapSource for waypoints, tracks and routes which can be transferred from/ to GMPC.

tcassidy here's what I see in GPCM.

NO FIX because I am inside.
