No, I know how to do that. What I would like is to change the data that is dispayed when a route is active. Some programs and handheld GPS devices allow you to choose what data items are displayed when a route is active. For instance, you could display "Distance to Destination" instead of "ETA".

That's exactly what I'd like to be able to do too, Ken. However (unlike Ken) I have no idea how to replace map for the newer one. Anyone can tutor me, or redirect me where I can find help?

If you look in Garmin Mobile PC - FAQ you will find the answer to many questions.

You should find the answer to this question in Transferring Detail Maps from Mapsource to Mobile PC

You're welcome.

Hi Ken,

I use Maosource ver. 6.15.6 and I do not have the line "Manage My Data" in the menu.

1. On the main screen click "TOOLS" then "Manage My Data" then "Map Sets".

See the Picture below...

So I don't work that way to replace the original map in the GPS...

When the transfer is complete, just copy the GMAPSUPP.IMG file to the Mobile PC folder.

I rename the file GMAPSUPP.IMG = "gmapprom.img" and override (replace)the old one with the new named...

'Manage My Data is a menu item in Mobile PC, not MapSource. To change maps in MapSource use the map name drop down or View-Switch to Product.

If you always change the gmapsupp to gmapprom, you will not get a 'MapSource' button in Mobile PC. The MapSource button shows you a list of your installed map products and allows you to switch between them.

Hi,

In Mobile PC you may not delete (supprimer) the original Map...

As you see on the picture below.

I don't quite get it. In my Garmin Mobile PC, as a "Map Sets" I have this:

Do I need to do anything with it? How often I need to upgrade it? Or can I just leave it for next 10 years? And if I should upgrade it, when? And how often?

Looks ok to me. The reason you don't have a 'MapSource' button is you only have the main map loaded. There are no other maps to switch to so the option doesn't appear.

Nialog is able to have 3 different locked maps loaded as he has the GPS version (comes with a 20x or 10x). With the software-only version you can only add non-locked maps such as Topos or Canadian MetroGuide ones because there is no device to unlock the other type to.

Mobile PC will work with any combination of gmapprom.img, gmapsupp.img and gmapsup2.img plus the basemap (gmapbmap.img)

Terry is right...

One of ways to replace the original main Map is like I did below:

P.S.: Make a backup safety copy before override it... In case of problem... Or you will have to reinstall Mobile PC

Can Garmin Mobile PC able to log road datas with the speed measurement and export it to Google Earth so I can see my cornering speeds?

Cheers

Yes, it can save a track log. But I don't know if it will save enough data points to give you accurate cornering speed. Here are two examples.

The first picture is a track file from my GPS. You can see the yellow line that connects the dots (track data points). That is what a track log looks like. You can see the road curves underneath the yellow line.

The second picture is the road without the track line on it so you can see what the road really looks like.

I don't know if the number of track data points are close enough together to give accurate cornering speed. Sometimes there will not be a data point close to either the entry and/or exit of the corner.

I hope this helps.
