And I am sorry to disappoint, but yes, MapSource has not been worked on in quite a while, and there will be no new releases of that software.

You are of course welcome to keep using MapSource, we will keep it on the website for the foreseeable future.

That is unexpected. What is the route for transferring maps to other devices then...not that POS BaseCamp I hope.

Yeah, Basecamp/MapInstall is the replacement product. It's the only one that can talk to most of the new Garmin devices. Unfortunately it doesn't do some of the basics right yet. Routing is a pain in the a$$ compared to Mapsource. You can't bulk edit waypoints. Etc.

Thanks for pointing out that thread.

I wouldn't say it was completely unexpected. Seems pretty clear they have only been doing bug fixes for awhile and all the serious effort has been shifted to Basecamp. For example, Mapsource isn't really compatible with the new Garmin Handhelds. They are no longer storing waypoints the same way, for example.

Too bad though. I just got a Montana (which is fantastic, by the way), and really would prefer to use Mapsource. For some reason, I just haven't gotten as comfortable with Basecamp.

Oh well, I do understand why Garmin can't afford to support as many different software packages in these times of declining consumer demand for dedicated PND's.
