Any opinions on GooPs & Google maps for off-road navigation?
V8rider
Sorry, this may be an easy/stupid question but I'm new to GPS & mapping, but have a critical need...

I will be traveling in East Texas on small dirt trails that are not on any mapping software that I know of, but visible on Google Earth. I'd like to use a USB GPS receiver attached to my laptop and need to be able to see these dirt trails as I travel thru the thick brush. I've read about GooPs, but haven't seen any comments on this site.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Use the Search box at the top of every page here to search for "GooPS" or for "Earthbridge" and you should find discussions with information about both.

Also search for "Google Earth disk cache" to see how to use the cache to get those dirt roads loaded and usable in Google Earth when you have no internet connection.

I have been using Goops and Earthbridge on my netbook for over a year now... had a little time off when my Jeep died... and I always preferred Earthbridge because it turns in the direction you are moving just like a regular GPS. I am now looking for upgrades to both GooPS and Earthbridge to use in my setup in my Bronco.

Hi Ken
GooPs Plus and GooPs Pro have the ability to turn in the direction you are heading (AutoView Rotate). You can also configure Rotate to view your vehicle from any direction, (rear, front, left, right, etc.) not just rear.

Well maybe I'll just buy it. Problem is I want to go to a tablet PC, but the ones I can afford don't run Windows. Now I know there is a Google Earth app for Android but that still leaves me one shy of GooPS.
