You may have Win 7 64. I don't know if this still applies but it might be your problem.

Virtual Serial Ports with Win 7 x64

Thanks for replying.
GpsGate works well with Google Earth.
It's nRoute where the problem lies... I think.

I suppose that is reasonable but do you have the 64 bit version of Win 7 on your Lenovo?

Did you tell the GPSGate setup wizard that you want a Garmin serial port? Is the COM3 virtual serial port showing as a Garmin serial port?

Is there something else tieing up COM3? You can force GPSGate to put the Garmin serial port on a different virtual com port.

Yes to Windows 7 Home 64 bit.

With 'Input' now set with 'com3', it says 'Running OK!' GPS data but no position.
Which I think it means it is working.
The GpsGate icon on the task bar is yellowish green.

However, nRoute still says com3 not available.

When I try to set com3 as a 'Virtual COM Port/Garmin Emulation', com3 is not listed.
Com1, 2, 4, 5, 7 are and they are all set to Garmin Emulation.

I hope this make sense to you. It doesn't to me.
I'm going to bed.
See ya tomorrow.

Com 3 is not available because GPS Gate is using it as an input! Pick any of the ones you say are set to Garmin emulation as shown on the output tab of GPS Gate.

Also, ensure your GPS Gate version is 366 or later.

As Terry said, GPSGate is receiving the signal FROM the GPS receiver on COM3. GPSGate is sending the Garmin emulation as output on those other COM ports for use by any program that wants to look at the GPS signal. So tell nRoute to select any of those in the output list.

- signal FROM GPS receiver ==> "input" TO GPSGate,
- "output" FROM GPSGate ==> "input" TO nRoute or other nav programs.

Whenever a 'Virtual COM*/Garmin Emulator (Generic Device) is created, a message at the bottom of the screen reads, '[5] Failed to create virtual serial port'. This is true no matter what com# used.
dlw1146
Is this because PL-2303 Prolific Driver Installer is installed?

To follow up on that: just in case you are not familiar with choosing the COM port nRoute will monitor.

From within nRoute choose 'Select GPS...' from the 'Utilities' drop down (or CTRL+Shift+D) and pick the COM port from the 'Serial Port' drop down list.

Yes, I am familiar with that.
Select com1 says 'does not exist', as with com2, etc, etc.
Select com3 says 'port not available'.

Com1 and com2 are listed in GpsGate 'output' tab.
But, the error at the bottom says 'Failed to create virtual serial port'.
This happens no matter what I use.

Also, if you get an occasional 'not responding' message when changing COM ports as I do, go away and pour a coffee. nRoute will eventually quit whatever it is doing and come back to life normally answering your request!

What version of GPS Gate are you using per my post above?
