Navigator Free crashes with my POI file
paul9531031
I am quite new at this: After reading a lot online I passed a POI file through DiggerQt and lo, out came a .mca file! I was feeling very pleased with myself until when I go to Navigator's Import function and click on the new file, Navigator stops.

Can anyone suggest what might be wrong with my new file? It started as a .csv, (free from Archiescampings.eu) a typical line looks like this:

-5.33480, 36.19174, "SurEuropa 3a - La Linea (08/01-21/12) >+34956643587" its not too big (97k)

Has anyone gone through this loop already? Or got a csv file they know works after conversion with Digger, which I could have for comparison?

Any help gratefully received.
Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul, and welcome to Laptop GPS World. Is it the latest (version 11) Digger you are using? If not, see if you have better luck after upgrading.

Digger version11 download:

CSV should be UTF-8 encoded, else it will likely crash. You could use a converter like this one:

Alternatively, if importing CSV crashes, could you try importing an XLS file?

Hi Marvin, and thanks for thinking about my problem. I think I am using the latest Digger which I downloaded yesterday: The zip file is called digger_11_0_47 (which is slightly different from your link but looks newer). I assumed that the csv was UTF-8 simply because digger was happy with it. I have the same file of type .gpx, .kml, .dat, .upd, .asc, .lmx, .upi, .ov2 but not .xls. Also I ran a little routine in Basic to strip out all the sites that were not in Spain or Portugal. If I had made a mistake with the Latitude and Longitude so that the POIs were not on any map that Navigator has, do you think that might cause the crash?

With thanks for any further thoughts that may come.

Paul

You could test it by importing a small file containing only a few POIs you know are within the map coverage.
