Streets & Trips 2013 download available likely any moment now
davidwood304
Just now opened S&T 2011 to use it. Unfortunately had the boss on the phone at the time, so I had to ignore the popup and use it.

The popup appeared to be Microsoft. It offered a download of S&T 2013. When I got off the phone I was unable to get the popup, even after restarting S&T 2011.

Google and Bing found no access.

David, thanks for letting us know. In past versions the popup was able to display only that a new version was available. The current version of the feature is able do display more. Read about this feature here: http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/2380-review-microsoft-streets-trips#2011

I wonder if what you saw was a very brief testing by Microsoft. What you saw may be what we will all see when the Streets and Trips 2013 becomes available for download.

You mean this. Unfortunately it doesn't go to 2013 yet but still 2011. Soon, I expect!

Terry, thanks for sharing the screen shot. So it seems ST2013 has a new box design. I think the last two versions reused the old design from version 2009.

It seems the download could become available any time.

I'm still using 2004, bought 05, 06 and 08 and all went it the trash.
Played with the trial of 2011, and found, besides several controls reversed or changed, it will not read older files. Might be a cool idea for some MS geek, but my files are more valuable to me than a new S&T. So I'm stickin with 2004 )
Can't figure why any one would actually be anticipating 2013. And to actually care if it has a new box design. No wonder why MS gets away with selling crap programs.

If you had updated your files with the versions you threw in the trash, you might be using them now in 2011 or 2013. What good is a mapping program if the roads are at least 8 years out of date!!

Hey I tried 2011 on the same routes I did with my 2004, side by side, they both came up with the same route info and both made the same mistakes, so why upgrade.

Besides, I've been on the road for over 30 years, most routes I know, and as I seldom have to be any where at any particular time, I can explore new roads.
Guess it's different if you depend on maps to get around.
I only use GPS to mark a photo ops or land marks I want to get back to some day.
And I'm well past the age where working around program bugs is fun...

When I opened S&T 2011 on my netbook a few minutes ago I got a pop-up window offering me a free S&T 2013 trial. I didn't download it because I wanted to do that on my desktop. When I opened S&T on my desktop, I didn't get the pop-up offer. Looks like we should see it soon.

Yesterday I received a pop-up with a free trial offer for the 2013 version.
I was on a very slow campground wi-fi so clicked it away.
Now I wonder how long it will take before I see it again....at just the
right moment....so I can download it.

Just got the popup a little after midnight June 29 pacific coast time. The "trial" download was for S and T 2011. I was disappointed.

However, last year when I had trouble installing my 2011 version on a newly formatted hard drive using Win 7 SP1, I had a MS Tech guy in India work with me for over a week to try to get it installed (using remote help over the internet). He could not get it installed and I finally had to reformat the drive again, reinstall Win 7, install Streets and Trips 2011, and then reinstall SP1 in that order to get it to work properly. He promised me that as soon as a new version was out, MS would send it to me free. I'm not holding my breath, but I do hope it comes.

God you are a glutton for punishment. Work with tech support for a week just for S&T.
I wouldn't waste that much time on new computer.

Thats it Krash, keep up the positive attitude.
Geez you must not have much fun...LOL

Dan, if I were Krash I would likely not bother updating yearly, as he doesn't need maps as much:

Those of us who use maps on a daily bases welcome a map data refresher whenever it becomes available. A new feature or two is a bonus, too.
DanTheDriver
Yes I know. BTW not meant to be a flame or slam on Krash. Just bad humor.
But...with a name like Krash...maybe driving is a bad career.

The thing about S&T is that it has such a great potential but MS has decided to not even scratch the surface as to what can be done with it. Shameful really.
