America's scenic highways and byways for Microsoft Streets & Trips
Richard in South Carolina
Has anyone seen an add on or overlay to add Americas Hwy's & Byways to S&T.

The above question by Richard motivated forum members to start putting together a Streets & Trips file containing many scenic highways.

Hi Richard, and welcome to the forum. It would be nice if future versions of Streets & Trips would incorporate a feature which would calculate a "Scenic Route" as an alternative to the default "Quickest" route. Some products do have such functionality, but I haven't tested it myself so I can't say how well it works.

Several members of this forum have shared their S&T trip files, see if you can find some inspiration there: Streets & Trips Library of Member Trips

I highlighted most of them in an older version of S&T 2006 I think. My new Surface Pro with Windows 8 will not open them. Any ideas?

Richard, S&T opens files saved in versions several years back, but only up to a point. The following discussion touches on the subject: Microsoft Streets & Trips unable to open a map saved in much earlier version

If you send me the file I'll be happy to update it to the current version. I'm at stevejones at ontimezone dot com.

Hello Steven,

Wow that's fantastic. I'll figure out how to send it an it will be on the way.

Steve,

I sent the file to stevejones at ontimezone dot com.

I hope that is correct. Hmmmm maybe I can include it here and other folks might like to have it. I hope it is the correct file. I put S&T 2013 in both my computers so I can't open it in either one.
I can't get the file to copy here. Sorry

Richard, I edited your post as Steve probably doesn't want his email address available for non-people type programs.

Ooops, I guess they can get it right from Steve's response to me.

Thanks again. There is one address that has attached to many of the locations but easy to clean up.
Larry
Wow Richard! I just opened your custom America's Byways map. You have put a lot of work into that one. Nice job!

Thanks, I about cried when I purchased S&T 2013 and could not open it. Steve is a life saver. Maybe I can buy him a drink someday.

I need to take time to check each one of the Hwy & Byway. I notice that an address for a friend of mine that is on that map turned up on a bunch of locations. I guess funny things can happen during a conversion. I'm a computer user and not a guru. Does not hurt anything but looks like I have lost my mind. I hope all the push pins remained in place. When I get a chance I will check them. If I find errors I will post them.
Larry
Ok, let me know what you think.

I took Richard's 'America's Scenic Byways' map and created a version where each Byway is separated into its own pushpin set. This will make it easier for people to copy over just the scenic routes they are interested in.

Its not perfect but it is a good start.

<edit>The attached file has been removed as Larry posted a newer version of the file later in this thread. A link to the most recent file version is always available in the first post on page #1 of this thread (here).</edit>
