Hi Boyd,

This is the comment Terry is likely responding to. .

As I read through the thread I think Mike may be asking for help with [at least] two different things - - loading maps from the laptop to the GPS and trying to show GPS location on the laptop. I could be wrong about the loading maps part. He may only want to display location on the laptop.

I was finally able to view location data on the laptop. Turns out, when I loaded the latest version of Mapsource, I was trying to unlock from the "Maps" menu which lead to unlocking maps through Garmins website which keep giving me "invalid Product Key" messages.
Next to the "Maps" tab is a "Regions" tab. Through that I was able to unlock the BlueChart maps using the 27(?) digit code. Now I can see both my location data, plot waypoints, pass routes and tracking data between the 76Cx and laptop.
Thanks all for the suggestions.

Now that my laptop is talking to the 76Cx, I am able to see my BlueChart maps and transfer tracks, establish waypoints, and create routes using only Mapsource and the 76Cx connected via USB to my laptop. My question is about nRoute. What will it do that Mapsource is not already doing?

nRoute has realtime navigation features on your laptop. Mapsource doesn't, unless you have a very very old version.

Ok, I have nRoute running with BlueCharts and the 76Cx. nRoute keeps giving me error message "Please insert disk titled Americas BlueCharts bla bla bla. It's like nRoute loses track that CD is already loaded. I have to eject the CD and remount it before nRoute will respond. Can maps be loaded from C:?

I didn't even know you could run it from a CD.

Terry means, yes, you can install the maps onto the hard drive and both Mapsource and nRoute will use them from there.

But its been so long, I've forgotten how it is done. These days I just use GMTK to move the files from one computer to another. I guess there must be install files on the CD. It does work with Win 95 you know!

There should be a SETUP.EXE file on the CD.
