What settings for Garmin 62st and GpsGate?
mike06
Can anyone suggest settings to use with my 62st + GPSGate to work with Streets and Trips 2013 ? Thanks Mike

Set the 62ST interface to NMEA In/Out and see if GPS Gate can locate it when it is connected to your computer. If so GPS Gate will provide several output COM ports suitable for S&T.

Still can not get it to connect to S&T even with gps gate. No problem with Deleorme Topo 6. Hand in working with enroute util I put in a new hard drive this week. just missing something.

That is very unclear as to what you are doing. If Delorme is running, GPS Gate will not see the 62. The way to set it up would be to have no navigation programs running when you set up GPS Gate. Once it finds the 62ST it can give you an indication in the notification bar of the signal quality. It will also provide several output COM ports. You can use those for both S&T and Delorme at the same time, each with its own COM port.

I do not run them all at the same time Terry. GPS gate does find my 62st and when I go to S&T it does now find the GPS but does not pick up the signal to navigate with. Do you think I need to change the baud rate in GPS Gate? Thanks Mike

Finally got it to work with S&T and Map Point.
Settings on 62st:
Interface= Garmin Spanner
NMEA Sentences = On
Autopilot Mode = Off

GPS Gate Settings
Input = Garmin COM 1/ Garmin to NMEA
Settings Com 1
Baud Rate 9600

Good information about the Spanner setting. It is obvious now why it won't work directly with S&T if GPS Gate has to be set for 9600 bps in. S&T won't support that but GPS Gate takes care of it.

Good work!

I had looked up the 62ST manual online and found no mention of 'Spanner' under the interface settings. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong manual.

Terry I got those settings to work with both Map Point and S&T. Do you think that GPS Gate automatically reduces the baud rate thru the output?
tcassidy
Exactly what GPS Gate can do! It can match the output bit rate to match the demand of the program requesting the data

Terry, I think all newer Garmin handhelds have the Spanner setting. I know that my Oregon and Montana do. AFAIK, all it does is allow you to choose what happens when you plug in the USB cable. With Spanner enabled, when you plug in the cable the GPS will put up an alert and ask if you want to enter Mass Storage mode. If you say no, then it will continue to operate normally and will send position data over the interface.

Thanks for that information Boyd. I don't personally have access to any of the latest Garmin handhelds.

Boyd is right on about the spanner mode I also think I read somewhere that it is also a nmen serial out.
