Find Nearby Places goes to entire trip
solarsteve
In long trip mapping, we use "find nearby places" around our location for RV parks, restaurants, gas stations etc. It searches the user specified distance around the selected "point", or a "segment" of the trip plan etc. However one of the options that we do not want on a 2000+ mile trip is "search entire route" because it will take forever and return thousands of results. Yet sometimes when the search is started, even with a single point on the map selected, it may default to "search entire route". Then "cancel" eventually can stop the process. But it still initiates that total trip search several times a week (search starts before the dialog box is open where you can check the type of search wanted). Once open, it can be menu-controlled easily for subsequent searches.

What version of Streets and Trips or AutoRoute are you using?

In my 2010 versions of both of the above, I always get "point" as the "find nearby places" default option whether or not that is my preferred option.

I am using 2013, and have used every edition before that. Not sure how many had the "entire route" problem but at least 3 or 4 years of them. This is when you highlight a town name or other item on the map, then right click and select "find nearby places". usually works point, but several times a week goes to entire route. But once I get a point search, no problem highlighting another name on map and hitting "update" on the search box, that one never fails.

I have tried a few but I am not sure I can replicate your experiences. The only thing I can think of would be if you are clicking on a place name that is on your route. Then, I find that S&T tends to "assume" you are on the route rather than just the place. If you see the route change color from blue to cyan when you make your selection, then you will know that S&T is focused on the route rather than the place and the things it will find are for the entire route rather than the place.
