Microsoft Streets and Trips doesn't optimize to stop at my pre-set arrival time
Scott Brady
I have several stops in a day, 10-20. I put in my start point and end point. I want discuss the need to be able to put amount of stop time for all stops as that has been requested for ever. My problem is when I build my route with a stop that I have to be at a certain time and set arrival time and then optimize, it will tell me you will arrive early or late but will not optimize to stop at this time, any help?

When "optimizing" S&T seems to take into account the distance of the route and the nature of the roads covered, thereby ignoring user preferences for starting and arriving times. Therefore, I do not think there is a solution for your problem within S&T.

Thanks, at least I can stop looking. Why do they have arrival time? what use is it? Is there another product that works?

The original purpose of the software - regardless of what people use it for - is trip planning. Those wishing to plan a trip of more than one day probably have an idea of when they will leave their origination point. It is of interest to them how far they might get in that day assuming they have a defined time after which they don't wish to drive. The software, inaccurate as it might be, attempts to give them an idea of where to plan the stop for the night.

Well, it actually has a purpose. It comes into play if your higher priority is when you arrive versus when you depart. If that is the case, you can enter your required arrival time and S&T will compute when you should depart when it calculates the route. I use it all the time.
