CoPilot: "License Invalid" (Error.706)
OneRVer
So, I wanted to do some traveling this past weekend, and bring my laptop that has the Copilot installed.

When I log into Copilot I got this message, "License Invalid" (Error.706).

Any thoughts as to why? This is V-9 and it has been installed on this laptop since January, 2014. Also I have been using it most of the time with no problems.

As normal, I am waiting for a response for ALK but who knows.

Now this is not a plug for Diesel Boss, but, if I would have bought this program from him, I would have it up and running.

I have Copilot back up and running again. Just needed to download and re-install. There was no problem reloading, but I sure would like to know what caused this problem in the first place. The version that I have now is, 9.2.0.657. Is this the latest version?

Sorry man. I missed this thread a while back. But I'll answer it now for you guys and for any Google searches that stumble in.

ALK uses a licensing method that connects to some magic secret-sauce files interspersed into some of the Windows folders in conjunction with the normal "CoPilot" installation folder.

What we have seen multiple times now, is that when you do a "Windows Update" or similar other actions that affect some of the deeper Windows system files (like sometimes "System Restore" etc) - especially if the computer is set to "Automatic Updates" and CoPilot happened to be running at the time that you did this "other action" - it will corrupt on of the CoPilot licensing files. And then you will see "Lecense Invalid" error.

The only way to fix it is to do an "uninstall-reinstall" of CoPilot. Then THAT will often bring on a second error afterward whereby it will say that "CoPilot is already activated" on another machine. So then you have to put in a support ticket to get them to manually deactivate the key for you even after you have corrected the installation on your computer. Very painful a few times, this error you got...

I know this thread is old but just I've just had this problem myself on Windows 10. Luckily I don't need to use the sat nav for a day or so but I'd be mighty pi**ed off if this had happened in the midst of a European trip. I've submitted a ticket to ALK support but not heard anything back as yet. I presume that since I have this problem that no updates have been released to fix this? I only bought my copy of the software a few months ago.

What a stupid situation for a software product to be in!

The only reliable way to avoid problems with CoPilot (especially the now-discontinued Windows version)... is to not use it, unless you're a trucker whose needs for CoPilot Truck's trucking-specific features make the hassle an acceptable tradeoff.

Otherwise, if in Windows 10, use Microsoft's "Maps" app instead. Despite its limitations, it does what it does a lot more reliably than CoPilot for Windows.

Just my two cents worth.

#GoneNomad thanks for the feedback.
I need height, width, weight, axle weight settings etc., so standard apps like Microsoft Maps are of little use. CoPilot sorted the problem (they deactivated the license) after a couple of days and everything works again after a re-installation. The Windows PC (Win 10) version of the app works very well although the lack of map updates can be frustrating.

You say that you only bought it a few months ago. What version is it? I am seeing quarterly map updates. Current maps are Q3 of 2018 as of this post on Version 9 (Truck/Car/RV) for Windows.
