Make sure you check that the 'app' you are interested in actually uses NMEA data though. Some of them are set up only to respond to Windows location sensors.

The GPS sensors still do NMEA. You just need the shim that makes a COM port look like a sensor.

The GPS sensors do not do anything that even looks like NMEA. I found that out when I was working the other way. The software in between has to make up NMEA from the data provided or vice versa.

Is there a way to use Bing Maps offline if you are in a situation where you might not be able to get online and need to do some planning or revisions to a trip? Eg. Google Maps will let you cache an area for offline use. Does Bing Maps have an equivalent?

Does Bing Maps have any equivalent to the routing and other trip planning features in the laptop products?

By the way, the page you linked with the official announcement required me to login first.

Bing maps is the BEST suggestion to a nav system replacement?

I liked having the laptop (15") screen and maps oh and the ability to create a route with more then 1 on the way point in my trip so I could route all my stops and get the most efficient use of my gas on a trip also I was able to use that to bill mileage.

How do you do that with Bing?
