Its good Dave mentioned the new map then as I hadn't checked for updates recently.

I would love to be able to get my old nroute maps updated to current standards. It is a really great moving map on my Toughbook and I am in the same situation as Allen Maloney was. If he or anyone else could tell me the correct procedure it would be greatly appreciated. This is my first posting here and I am not all too familiar with some computer stuff so please be patient. krtb

According to the older garmin map updater file it said there was new mapping software available for my Mobile PC 20x unit so I bought it. When I tried to download it I was prompted to install communicator plug in which I attempted however then I got a message saying that is was not supported from the edge browser so that was as far as I got. I had no luck with garmin express either so I called garmin for a refund. I'm thinking the people who are running windows 7 os can still have success with this because of the older internet explorer browser and it should download the plug in software successfully however I am sol. The weird thing is both mobile pc and nroute are running perfect on windows 10 pro but a lot of the mapping is outdated.

Internet Explorer 11 is available on Windows 10. Easiest way to find it is a search.

Not sure about the Communicator plug in. I can't remember if it was of any use. Marvin suggested Garmin Map Updater which I know works with Mobile PC. POI Factory appears to have a link to the latest version on this page at the bottom of the first message.

Hey thanks. This was the same version I tried this morning and it didn't do me any good.

What doesn't it do? I don't have GMPC on the Win 10 computer so can't tell for sure but it appears to work fine.

Hi Terry. This version of Garmin Map Updater would not allow me to download the new mapping software I bought using the Edge browser. It wanted me to download garmin communicator plug in first which the edge browser doesn't support either. Then I tried Garmin Express and was told the new City Navigator North America mapping would not work with GMPC 20. Perhaps I should have left windows 7 pro on my CF-31 but it is too late to go back now. Kurt

I just clicked on the link in my message to download it not knowing which browser it used - it sure looks like Edge. I really don't understand what problem you are having but it isn't Edge as far as I can see.

You did do the Fall update to Win 10 I assume.

I'll install the hardware version of GMPC on this tablet just in case it is further into the process that is giving you problems. Just have to find my CD!!

Ok and best of luck. This stuff is probably simple for most of you folks but not me.

Is this the error message you are getting? I have seen it before but can't remember why. I'll try to chase it down.

Did you purchase an update to an existing map, or a new map? I thought MapUpdater only works when you are updating existing maps, such as a one-time or lifetime update to City Navigator.

I used it before with my Nuvis because Garmin Express was so buggy. But when I tried updating about a month ago, MapUpdater crashed a few hours into a 6 hour download (I have slow DSL). I ended up using Express instead. My understanding is that Garmin is no longer officially supporting MapUpdater.

Not they are really even supporting communicator anymore, since web browsers are moving away from the "plug in" architecture.

Unfortunately, Express does not recognize GMPC and therefore will not update maps for it.

I did a proper install of GMPC hardware version from the original DVD. Using Map Updater and it is working fine. I assume my previous problem was due to a partial install without proper maps. My version of GMPC is 5.00.60 and came with a Bluetooth GPS 10x.

You might want to check your version of GMPC. Older ones may be a problem and later updates are available if you are interested. You can check the version of GMPC with the 'Settings' and 'About' button. The version is listed in the top left corner of the screen.
