FRANSON GPSGATE
Wychwar
Have installed Franson GPSGate 2.6 (Splitter Express - the free one) on a Windows 10 laptop. Using compatability mode set as windows 7 this runs O.K.
It "sees" the connected Garmin 18 receiver. On "Select Output" both "I want to use my GPS with nRoute/Mapsource" and "I want to share my GPS between several applications" are ticked. On "Summary" GPS Gate Direct and Virtual COM 1 / Garmin emulator (Generic Device) show 1 client connected and Running OK!. However both NRoute and Quo have no GPS input. Turn of GPS Gate and both applications receive GPS input and show a track on the appropriate map.

Any help to fix this ?

GPS Gate does not require compatibility mode. It runs fine in Windows 10. I can't quite understand the rest of your settings. However, if you look in the taskbar on the bottom right of your screen, you should see a red or green symbol indicating whether GPS Gate is running ok. It may not show but can be found by clicking the 'show hidden icons' up arrow.

If you right click on that icon and select 'Settings', you will see 3 tabs. Input will show you what GPS Gate is monitoring and below that an icon with 'Running OK!' next to it if it is seeing data from your GPS 18. The output tab should show at least on virtual COM port for your mapping program.

One thing I am not sure of is the GPS 18 assuming it is the USB version can only output Garmin style data. Although nRoute can work with that directly, I don't know if GPS Gate can.

I found an article that says GPS Gate Splitter can use the GPS 18 USB as an input. So that should not be an issue.

Check your setup.

Input is not the problem it is output. GPS Gate icon is showing green. When GPS Gate is running both NRoute and Quo report that there is no GPS input. If I shut down GPS Gate both applications show GPS input. But only individually.

Did you check the output tab to see which 2 COM ports are available/ And click on each one to make sure there is no error.

Then select the appropriate COM port in each program. nRoute will need the one that is set up to output Garmin style data. What your other program needs, I have no idea but if it is NMEA, just use the other COM port listed on the Output tab.

For example.

Do you mean 'Que' as in the old name for Garmin Mobile PC? How do you make that work with a GPS18? Or are you using a GPS 20x?

Hello Terry,

Thanks for your help again. The problem, just discovered is in the settings within the two applications. Set to a "COM" port and there was an instant connection to the GPS receiver. Loads of satellites visible. Both pplications now working O.K. I hope!

QUO is British software from a firm called Mapyx located in Southampton. It uses Ordnance Survey maps which are purchased as "tiles" from Mapyx at about 0.80 GBP per tile. It works very well.

Great to hear you have it resolved! And your clarification of QUO.

OK Terry. I am off on a short cruise across the English Channe, and up the river Seine to Rouen, tomorrow. So will test it out for real.

Thanks again,
