Map settings in Garmin Mobile PC

Could someone explain what "Metro Areas" and Outline Detailed Maps" relate to? Many thanks.

I'm not sure what "Metro Areas" is.

The mapping in Mobile PC is made up of two things. The basemap and the detail maps. When you zoom fairly far out you will only see the basemap displayed. As you start to zoom in you will see increasing amounts of detail. This is displayed from info in the detail maps.

City Navigator North America, for instance, is not a single detail map covering the entire continent. It's actually a whole bunch of individual map segments covering different parts of the continent.

"Outline Detail Maps" will put visible borders around each of the detail map segments.

Okay, here's what Mobile PCs built-in Help says:

Quote:
Metro Areas - select Enabled (metro areas are shaded) or Disabled

Thanks for that, wonder why you would want shading?

I don't know what value it would have. I turned it on and I don't see any difference, anyway, so it seems rather a useless setting. Doesn't seem to do anything at all.
