jsnoik, thanks for the F8 tip. I wasn't aware of this. We are running out of F-keys

toyfountain just posted first work-in-progress version of S&T Keys 2009. There will be many old features still not working, but it is definitely much more than I was able to do . Thanks, toyfountain.

On my previous version, 2007, I did not use the <F8> keys. I just double clicked on the icon. Now, when I double click on the icon, the program zooms in instead.

Maybe, you could use <Shift>+<F8> or similar.

Also, with regards to starting the GPS tracking, I noticed that it is one of the functions that can be accessed through the Menu selections under the Tools Menu. Once you can confirm the screen is selected, (I don't know how hard that would be) the key sequence would be <Alt> <T> <G> <S>. They would each be as a stroke.

Don't know if that will help, but here is hoping.
1) To open the push pin information you can also right click on the push pin instead of using the left button to double click on the push pin. This opens a menu and "show information" is the very first on the menu list (or last if the menu opens in the opposite direction) . Once the menu is open then the letter "I" will open the information.
Right click + I on the push pin will show the information.

I will look into your suggestion and see if F8 can be liberated. I'll have to think about an alternate method of toggling the favorites.

2) In the work in progress version of Keys I've added a shortcut button to start and stop the GPS tracking. It's F4+G

Martin, have you ever tried to tell Microsoft how fantastic are your keys and offer to help/advise them on it?

I fully agree with others saying that S&T or the equivalent done by Microsoft itself is a must.

Help/advise the MS guys and girls? Me ? While that's very flattering (thanks), if there is anything slowing down the progress of Streets & Trips, it is not the lack of their know how, but rather the lack of resources their employer allocates to this product. I'm afraid they concentrate most of their efforts these days on their online products. That's where they likely see more future profits.

I'm glad you like S&T Keys. If you have upgraded to the new Streets & Trips 2009 version already, you may want to give a try to the version of S&T Keys by toyfountain. He released it today.

Marvin,
I'm confused. Isn't Toyfountain working on POI Scanner? I assumed it was a different add-on than S&T Keys.

Yes, POI Scanner is totally his own idea (he worked on it despite me telling him it could never be done ). He also modified S&T Keys with various of his improvements. I don't think there is a standalone version of POI Scanner at the moment, I think it is integrated to his version of S&T Keys (toyfountain, correct me if I'm wrong).

Both are separated. I did add a function to the POI Scanner to have it start Keys if both are in the same directory. I need to fix a version 1.7 because it should only work with XP. I've started with version 1.8 beta001 to have it work with Vista, but it works buggy with XP and 2008. I'll be fixing this very soon.

Keys have three versions. Marvin's (the original), mine and MisterMoonlight also modified one.

What is "POI Scanner"...
and if I download that & keys, what is the best way I can stay on top of upgrades?

My contribution is very little as compared to the others .

So rewards to the others Marvin and Toyfountain

I just posted the second beta version of Keys for S&T 2009. I'd say almost all the features are working now. I even found a work around for the new Start/Stop GPS button.

Mostly, it only needs work on the new GPS pane button for the options menu.

toyfountain, excellent work. I haven't been able to work on S&T Keys at all, and most likely I will not be able to touch it for another at least couple of weeks, so I'm very glad you have saved the day.
