I tried to transfer the maps from my European map which I bought in Bangkok. It came with an unlock code, I just use it to browse the map.

Now I have Garmin Mobile PC. I am trying to see if it can get the European maps to it. I followed the guidelines I learned in here by first downgrading the Mapsource to 6.1.3.7. Transfer to device worked, Mapsource has no problem finding my Garmin Mobile PC. The problem is when I started the Mobile PC, it does not like the new transferred map, thinking it is unlocked, and I have to enter my Product Key to start the unit, the mapsupp file has an * in the mapset, apparently it is unlocked to Garmin Mobile PC.

If the problem is in the Bangkok version, then I am willing to buy a new one, only if it is guaranteed to work.

I was able to transfer a "Garmin compatible map" downloaded from web, I can see it in Map Sets, but that's all, Garmin Mobile PC only gives me option to see the map in Mapsource, I really wanted to browse the new map in GMPC, is it possible?

If the mapset you downloaded is locked, unless you have GMPC with a GPS 20x, there is nothing to unlock it to. So you can't use it. The only maps that work with the software version of GMPC are the ones that come with it or those that have no lock code (such as MG Can v4).

I dowloaded the central Japan map in here:
http://www011.upp.so-net.ne.jp/mametaro/kanto-e.html
The author made the compatible Mapsource map, there is no lock code involved, and GMPC never complained about it after I transferred it, but when I highlighted the new map in MAP SETS, I had 2 choices, one is "DONE", which did nothing, another is MAPSOURCE, which took me to mapsource to view the new map, that's it after I uncheck NT 2009.
I use the GMPC in my new tablet, it is working great, but if I can use those compatible maps not made by Garmin (no lock code) would be great, because as I just discovered that so many are available in the Web. Can anyone try to download the link I provide?

By the way, quoted from the other thread:

1. On the main screen click "TOOLS" then "Manage My Data" then "Map Sets".

2. Click the MapSource" button at the bottom then click the checkbox to clear (disable) City Navigator North America NT2009 and click the checkbox to enable the mapset you just added.

After you uncheck City Navigator and check the map you added, did you go back to the main menu and select 'View Map'? If so, what did you see? The map you loaded and chose should be displayed.

Terry,
In Map Sets, after selecting MAPSOURCE, I see 2 selections, one is North America 2009, another is Japan, the one I transferred from MAPSOURCE earlier, the buttons showing below the screen are DONE and Launch Mapsource, I clicked DONE after I selected JAPAN and it absolutely did nothing to view the MAP in GMPC, it would take me to Mapsource to view the map if I clicked Mapsource.
At this point, I don't think it would work by using 3rd party Garmin maps in GMPC.

I can't determine what you expect to see when you select 'View Map' with only your downloaded map selected. Are you in Japan and have a GPS operating? Did you try the browse map button? Is it possible you are located somewhere that is not on the map you downloaded? Can you post a screenshot?

I don't know what procedure you are following so I included some screenshots of what I do after selecting the map.

Hi Terry,
It works!!! I thought when I clicked the BROWSE MAP, the screen would show nothing but Japan map, actually, if I moved to other side of Pacific, the uploaded maps showed, the squares mean there are details to be discovered.
I am a happy man.
Thanks for working with me.

I am glad it works ok. You can never have too many maps!

yes Terry, you can never have too many maps, I travel a lot worldwide, I need to track where I am on the airplane and on the road.
I have a Nuvi Us with Europe SD card, and another Nuvi just shows china and Taiwan, I always wanted to have just one portable GPS unit that shows it all, the closest I can find is a modified PSP, yes, Sony PSP, a software called Mapthis allow you to make maps by using Google Map.
Now, I have GMPC installed in my new HP tablet, I am pretty much have found what I am looking for.
Um, it would be nice if the Mapsource Europe I bought in Bangkok works with GMPC.

I seem to be having similar problems. I bought GMPC and the 20x separately (thought it would give me more flexiblilty for different sensors later). I have map source with a free, unlocked, New Zealand map. It does transfer to the GMPC ok, and I do find it on the list of maps...but I do not see the mapsource button as in the above picture by T. And after clicking on the free New Zealand map, I still see the N. America map. Do I have the wrong GMPC (: and is there a work around? I actually paid more by buying the components separately, thinking it would give me more flexibility.

First, do you see your NZ map in the Map Set, if yes, then select the NZ map then Browse Map, zoom out all the way and move your map downunder bound, when you see NZ then zoom in to see if you can see details.
Good luck.

If you don't have the MapSource button, how do you select the New Zealand map as in the second picture?

Also, if the New Zealand map is there, you have to remember that; unless you are in New Zealand and have a GPS connected. The program will think you are in Olathe, Kansas. That's why you use the browse map button and go around the globe until you get to New Zealand.

Thank you for the reply, Terry. After clicking on mapsets I got two items: worldwide base map and the new zealand map with a c underneath each. No mapsource button, and I didn't get a listing as in your second picture. When I broused the map, it looked like the North American map, and had the stuff from Florida which I had on it. I think it may be due to a different version of GMPC because I bought the software and 20x separately? A call to Garmin may be in order!
