It is difficult to appreciate why software companies like MSFT deem removal of product features, such as the full pushpin options list in Streets & Trips, to be a valid part of a product's evolution.

Amen,

Please bring back the full pushpin set. I have to believe this was done so that the look and feel matches the online Live features. As users we lose again because someone wants a pretty interface.

I am not sure what the motivation for peeling out functionalities is. I say let us users make it as messy as we like. Like a sandbox.

It will be interesting to see if the next version of Streets and Trips 2010 brings back the lost pushpin symbols. In the mean time, perhaps the easiest way to add the old pushpins to the new S&T 2009 is to just use the template Gladwin posted yesterday:

[Template] Old-style pushpins for Streets & Trips 2009 / MapPoint 2009

The pushpin issue has been fixed in the new version of Streets & Trips 2010.

OK - Why not just make the pushpin sets loadable? I can't imagine one map using each and every type of symbol... and why add 200+ extra pushpin symbols via template when one only needs a handful or so?

Have one set using the most common symbols, one 'Classic' set, one 'modern' set, one with just the letters / numbers, and have a dialog where you can specify which set the map will use.

For those who require an eclectic set of pushpins, throw in a custom pushpin tool where you can pick from multiple sets or even load in custom .bmp symbols created in other apps and add them to the custom pushpin set.

Good ideas...

Hi LineChaser,

If you only want to add a few new pushpin icons then download the icon library and pick only the pushpin icons you want to use.

This zip file contains over 600 bmp icons suitable for importing into any version of Streets & Trips using the 'import custom symbol' feature.

Available on the S&T team blog.

I liked the pushpins they used to have also. The new ones in 2010 look different and many are larger. The original pushpins were a little more detailed and didn't clutter the map screen so much when used.

I notice a problem with the icon library. It seems the "insertion point" for these icons is not the same as on the original icons in S&T 2008.

I'm using only icons 000 to 015 from that library as those were the only ones I needed / used in 2008.

Here's how to see the issue:

Create a few pushpins (use the default black pushpin) in S&T 2008 or older - note exactly where the point on the pushpin lands.

Open in 2010 then import symbol 000, assign it to the dataset from the imported file, then go and look at the pushpins. You'll see that the point on the imported symbol is a bit further down than where it was originally. That won't work with my setup - am going to have to put up with the foam rubber hats () for now.
