Thanks for the update, malaki86. Has ALK indicated they would consider bringing back some of the pre-version-11 functionality that is now gone?

They didn't mention what changes will be in the next version. Myself, I sort of suspect that it'll be the same one they have now but with the major bugs fixed.
When I asked them about them upgrading my useless copy, they said that the upgrade price will be $99 for the truck version. However, when the new version comes out, I'll be calling them to see about getting the upgrade for free since I can't use what I have now. |

is it just me or does 11 also require you to initialize the GPS everytime you start it as opposed to 9 that automatically finds it? This is infuriating - i use this daily - so I have just kept using 9, I just would like the maps updated to the 11 maps.

That sounded like a plan worth trying. But, no go. I copied the NA maps from v11 to v9. The program crashed in seconds.
Oh well - it was worth a try. |

After giving up on the coPilot Live 11 truck / rv / laptop, I've been using the TomTom GO720. It's been a slice of heaven. the voice is clear, the instructions are clear and given at the appropriate time. It figures out quickly that you are on a different path and adjusts. The only u-turn it asked for after about 8 uses was when I missed a turn and actually needed to go back. it is so easy to program, AND so easy to adjust that I can do it while driving the RV. I could go on and on, what a day and night difference. The smaller screen hasn't been a setback at all. If it has quirks they haven't surfaced yet.

Am I ever glad I read this before I purchased 11. I had version 9 but was so frustrated with it that I quit using it.

Hi Slim Pickins,
to Laptop GPS World. What was the cause of the frustration in CoPilot 9? Was it the map data or features? What software do you use now?

I like version 9. In fact, I still use it on a daily basis.

Slim Pickings found a solution that works for him. I haven't heard of this product myself, but he posted more info in a new thread: Truckmiles for OTR drivers

Just another update on CoPilot 11:
I had to call ALK on Thursday to make sure that CoPilot 9 would run on Vista. After I got the info I needed, I asked them about CoPilot 11. The tech support rep that I spoke to said that they are doing another complete rewrite on the software because of the number of problems in the current version, hence the reason for no patches. He then said that the senior management has stated that the new version will be a free upgrade to anyone that owns CoPilot 11. Good news there, at least. Of course, he didn't have any time-frame for the new version. I then joked with him by asking if they were going to have people actually *USE* the new version before they release it to the public. He didn't know what to say on that one. So, now it's just a wait-and-see. |

That sounds great, but I'm not going to hold my breath. It amazes me that they have not targeted launch date for this rewrite for their consumer.

Exactly. With the number of problems/complaints they've received, they should be working 24/7 on getting the new version released.
But, hey, if the update will truly be free, I'll give them another shot. |

I do not use my GPS every day, but I do like it when I travel or go places I've never been, for example I have a trip to Savannah, GA in OCTOBER. I would love for my CoPilot 11 to get me to my downtown hotel.
I know nothing about Savannah, but I do know it's a very old town with lots of one way streets. CP 11 has been VERY WEAK on city maps. |

Well, in my case I have Streets & Trips that is only $80,00 compared to Copilot 11 which I paid $300,00. Let me telling you this piece of crap it's so good in presentation then nothing else. This Copilot in my case doesn't want to avoid roads and also directing me thru Atlanta GA which everybody knows it's a big no no, you have to use I-285 around Atlanta; also every time I try to use it I have to set-up my GPS port which I never unplug it since I stop the truck . Also the way to safe locations, since I bought my first Copilot #9 which I think it's so good in all the perspective I have saved 800 locations with contacts Phone #s & addresses and ALK screw me over because I can not use those with my Copilot 11 since I started with my CoPilto#9. I really give to CoPilot #9 all my complements and Streets & trips 2006, 2007, 2008; the first one to guide me to locations the 2nd find out. What I'm trying to say Streets & Trips are excellent for addresses and Copilot for routing me to those I didn't find in my CoPilot#9, those two together are what a trucker need to go any where in USA. Also all the time Copilot #11 when I try to use time after time; after spend couple Hours just only to configured my speeds and my preferredd roads & no tolls use, short miles insted of practical miles, always route me for practical miles and when I trying to corrected doens't want me to avoid routes, tutorial to use the piece of crap, took me 1 year to learn the CoPilot #9 to use it at it's full capacity with favored roads and avoid roads. Copilot #11 piece of crap.
