How to use Philips USB GPS receiver from ALK CoPilot with another software program?

I have a USB 2.0 GPS receiver that came with CoPilot software. It's a Philips USB GPS Receiver. GPS-CP101 CoPilot, Model: D15U8.

Want to utilize it with some other software that's looking for a com1 or com2 connections from the GPS receiver. I'm unable to change the configuration of the software so wondering if there's some way convert the USB connection of the receiver to mimic a Com1 or Com2 connection.

If the GPS did not come with a USB to serial driver, you can not use it with other programs. If it is just on the wrong COM port, you may be able to resolve the issue. I suspect it would be better to get a new GPS. They are not expensive and should be more versatile and sensitive than the Philips.

Can you determine whether your ALK receiver has a USB to serial driver so that it shows up on a COM port? If so, can you determine which COM port it is showing up on? That's where we need to start.

I recall that the Philips GPS receiver was included in a very inexpensive ALK CoPilot bundle a few years ago, and it came with the warning that the unit was compatible only with the software it came with. It would not work with any other software.

If you wish to use another navigation software product you will unfortunately need another USB GPS receiver (or a Bluetooth GPS receiver).
