Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
rbbenson, so the program should NOT indicate the Taconic Parkway is prohibited to rv travel when the 'rv' filter is checked?

Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
Hi kft,
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding one of you. I did not see anything in rbbenson's post that suggested anything about RV data, one way or the other. He just said that for use in his truck driving he was generally happy with CoPilot but there are some enhancements he would like to see.
Based on the sorts of information he would like to see added, it looks like he agrees with you that it would be nice if more usage-specific types of data were added. You want more RV-specific info and he wants more professional driver-specific info.

Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
Ken, my point is simply that CoPilot represents itself to have features which really do not exist, unless I am doing something incorrectly-which is why I posted to begin with.
As I recall we paid $249 for CoPilot with the receiver, the software only will set one back $149, I don't recall what we paid for Steet Atlas 8 but the new Street Atlas was able to be had for $39 at the Company store in Maine last week.
Daytime use of any of these programs requires near constant vigilance , nightime use is risky-remember we drive a motorhome with trailer- but the clear winner is Street Atlas only due to its price, there is alot of value for the price paid.
At the cost of CoPilot one would think that you could leave the paper home but alas the cellulose gps remains essential.
Nothing is/was intended to be confrontational-I appreciate both the site itself and the info from all the members.

Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
Thanks for the clarification, kft. I haven't looked at the advertising for CoPilot so I don't know how they represent it but I can understand your frustration, given the price they charge.
I know what you mean about paying attention. My brother pulls a large fifth-wheel holiday trailer, which is a bit more flexible than a large motorhome, but you still need to plan ahead carefully. He uses Streets&Trips and quite likes it. He has been able to download a lot of pushpin files for things like Flying J and other stations that supply diesel, and rest stops and similar stuff.

Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
Many loads I pull are HAZMAT and it is of some importance to be on a route permitted with these loads.
Once you figure 'how to use' the POI feature, you can then locate these POI's that are 'in the database'.
The feature I would like is to 'addto' this database. Also, search this database with 'key words' like CAT scales, rest areas, service areas, etc.
Also, the favorites. I would like to be able to edit/label the favorites.
When 'finding an address' whichis not in the database or there but 'hard to find' like a Highway or State route, that this search/find would be more helpfull. Of course using the ZIP code works.

I've got CoPilot 11 but I don't use it (I'll stick with v9 for now). The data for trucks is even worse in v11 than it was in v9.

malaki86, tnks-hey but at least we all know where the nearest dry cleaners is located!
Does anyone know how much a business pays to have themselves in the poi database?

Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
No idea on that.
That would be a great suggestion for the program though (if ALK actually paid attention to their customers) - add a feature to hide any unwanted categories. Hell, that'd drop me down to about 3 categories to use.

Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
"The Company" uses the program CoPilot 2005 with its DriverTech device and is not 'cool to the idea' of getting 'out of route'. CoPilot for Trucks v11 does this program one better, more map on my 'wide display' laptop. Even in 'traffic', a heads up to which lane in which exit (especially Atlanta or Dallas) can be very appreciative to be in the right lane especially when your the big one above all the little ones.
Then 'driving truck' is a little different than a summer trip somewhere.

Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
I have a widescreen laptop but v11 won't run fullscreen on it with any of the native widescreen resolutions (the program immediately crashes).

Had the same problem but a call to tech support and reseting the screen resolution to 1280x800 solved the problem. Never, for me, happened again.

Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
I've worked my up from CP7 to CP9 to CP11....and back to CP9. CP11 is really a major step backwards, with much less functionality than CP9. The only major improvement I noted with CP11 was that the map view that centers your location in the center of the map and moves the map as you travel so that you stay in the map center.
Trip planning in CP11 is much more difficult than with CP9, and my biggest gripe is that they eliminated the ability to manage and edit custom POI's, and it's very difficult to add additional POI lists.
I've written a fairly thorough critique of my experiences with CP11; if interested, you can find it here:

Re: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released
Hello all. Thanks to all for the helpful info I'm finding here. I'm a user of Live LapTop 8. It has been a great program for me until recently. I started a new job, where the use of the GPS comes in very handy. I had in the past used the "Favorites", but found the limits on the amount you could have to be too low, so I started saving "Custom POIs" in "Custom 1". However I found a bug that with the "Visible Map Features", Points of Interest checked, Standard POIs unchecked, and Custom POIs checked, Bogus Labels appear on the map at higher zoom levels. I noticed bogus labels in the past in the form of strings of random symbols and letters, but the bug wasn't am issue until now. I need to print some of these maps but the bogus labels make the maps very confusing. Tech support up to now has been no help with the issue. I was wondering if anyone has had a simular problem, and if so, what's the fix. I need to input several hundred of these Custom POIs, but hate to do all the work if I can't use them. Thanks for any info or input along these lines.......After reading this thread, I doubt I will "upgrade" to LapTop 11, but might consider LapTop 9 to see if it works better in this regard.
