ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released

Will be posting an update on ALK CoPilot Truck 11 soon. I've had time to use and familiarize myself with the program and can say that I am disappointed to say the least. I've resorted back to my Microsoft Streets and Trips 2007. I've pretty much stopped using the ALK CoPilot because I'm tired of getting routed down roads that are not meant for big trucks!!! (3 times in one week) ARE YOU READING THIS ALK???

I sent ALK an email that points them to this discussion. Haven't heard anything back about it.

They need to change there name from ALK to ILK!!! It remains to be seen if they will acknowledge or even respond to this forum. They probably wouldn't want to accept and admit the shortcomings of the ALK CoPilot program.

Where is the long awaited ALK CoPilot truck update? I know you're reading this ALK...

I think the ETA was mid-May. Let's wait a couple of weeks to see if there is an update/fix. Most developers never give out ETAs (for variety of reasons). Let's at least give ALK a credit for not being afraid of giving users an ETA .

The main problem I have is that this patch that's supposed to come out eventually is too late. The program has been sold since, what, late January/early February? I had my update within a couple days of it being released and was on the phone with them from day 1. It took over 3 months before they even updated their FAQ's to include the problem with the screen resolution issue.

More than likely, they've already lost me as a future customer.

Well, I just called ALK and inquired about the patch. They seem disinterested, even though I explained that with the current "CRAP" version, they're going to lose customers.

Would anyone recommend ALK CoPilot 11 over the iGuidance N. America v4 2008NA+BU353/ Please be honest. I really like some features in ALK CoPilot 11, but some of the reviews I have read have complained about some street names not in the map data base. Just though I would get some opinions before purchasing one. Thanks Jeff

I wouldn't recommend ALK CoPilot 11 to anybody.

I just got back from a 2000 mile driving vacation. Besides the price of gas being to high, ALK CoPilot Live 11 was a disappointment.
Many address are not available until you get into the area your going then it has all the little streets and address. This isn't good
Maps are much worse than on CP 10.
I liked the screen infromation better on 10, and the voice promps where good, but they didn't give exit numbers...that would have been nice.
The system did get me around a road closer on some VERY back roads, but I got to where I was going.
It wanted to route me through Tupelo, MS. Not a good route. 60 miles shorter, but 1 hr and 25 min. longer than going through Nashville. Intersates are not finished going through Tupelo, MS many small towns and stop lights.
I'll give the system a B- and I think I'm being very kind. This will be my last ALK purchase unless they come up with some GOOD fixes fast.
It works, but not as good as ALK CoPilot 10. I would go back to it, but I don't have it any more. Kent Davis

I hear you, I've used nothing but Co-Pilot products up to 11 which I returned for the very same differences you saw from 10.

As far as map data goes let me give you an idea as to how much better Garmin Mobile PC is:

I do 15-25 deliveries each day 5 days a week. When I was using Co-Pilot I usually had 2-3 missing streets/addresses EACH DAY.

I have been using Garmin Mobile PC for a MONTH now and I have had ZERO MISSING ADDRESSES...

For me I can't even compare the products period, the "Garmin Mobile PC" is light years ahead of ALK plus there are more mobile online features that are way more useful as well.

I tried version 11 too but returned it after a few days noticing zero improvements on map data, without NAVTEQ it is worthless at least in my region (Pacific Northwest USA).

These are harsh words for ALK but they are fact, and when you are charging as much as they do one would think they would at least be making improvements year to year.

The fact is, Garmin has produced a superior product to ALK's CoPilot Laptop Live.

What's the name of the OTHER SOFTWARE? Garman or something? If I can send mine back I'll be trying it.

I sent an email to ALK asking them about returning it for a FULL REFUND. Do you think they will except or say NO?

Garmin Mobile PC doesn't do large vehicle routing, though. ALK CoPilot Laptop and ALK CoPilot Truck are pretty much the only choice, as far as I know.

CoPilot Truck is far from perfect. I've ran v9 since it came out and it's tried to send me in some horrific roads. We're talking roads that I wouldn't take my 4wd Blazer, let alone an 18wheeler.

Navteq has started releasing truck specific data. The product is called "Navteq Transport". I'm just waiting to see some products utilizing it.
