Two users were affected by this issue. I manually fixed the problem for both accounts. However, I'm still working on solving this, so it doesn't occur in the future. I'll post more info of my progress later today.

I'm able to recreate the problem, and I let the developer of the forum software know about it. They say it is a server issue. I contacted the host, they've changed various MySQL settings, but still the problem is there. What is happening is this: during the process of new user registration, a user may (very likely) get a database error. Most of the time the registration is completed despite this database error notification, but in some cases a user will not receive e-mail confirmation link via e-mail. Without this the user will not be able to verify his e-mail to complete the registration. The resulting effect is that such user will not be able to post to the forum. I can fix the registration manually each time this happens to a new user - now that I know about this problem - but I worry that this may be a symptom of some more serious underlying issue. I will not sleep well till this is solved

As of this morning the issue has been resolved - thanks to the very helpful technical support staff of Acenet - the company that hosts this forum at the moment (and very likely for a very long time ).

I will still keep an eye on this, and if anyone receives a "database error", please let me know.
